I've been swimming open water for a few years. Half way through the swim I began to really feel the cold and it slowed my stroke down a lot. How can I stay warm and strong during this race. When I finished

RE: How to stay warm and strong while swimming Donner Lake.

Thanks for the information. Donner Lake is one of those races where your time does not count if you wear a wetsuit. I'm swimming Pacific Grove and Alcatraz in September. I will be wearing a wetsuit for those. I usually double cap, but did not this time. Have a great day.

I thought Donner lake was colder than that. Lake Tahoe is around 65 - 68 degrees this time of year, and every time I have been to Donner Lake, it has felt significantly colder than Tahoe.

RE: How to stay warm and strong while swimming Donner Lake.

Donner lake not too cold to swim in with out a wet suit 64-69 degrees.

RE: How to stay warm and strong while swimming Donner Lake.

I don't have anything to say regarding keeping warm however I do have to ask if you know of a good Masters group by Roseville CA. I saw that you were from SAC so I thought that I might ask as I will be in the area for a week on travel.

Thanks,

Another way is to wear a cold water swim cap as most body heat leaves thru the head. Drinking some hot tea and eating a good breakfast like hot oatmeal and toast helps too. Warming up by exercising moving about before the swim is always a good idea..
