I&#39;m starting to develop some shoulder soreness from my efforts. I&#39;m wondering if being a bit older that I might need more recovery between swims, I&#39;m currently training every other day.

RE: raining frequency for Sharkfest

Thank you all for your words of encouragment and bolstering. I do about a 35 min mile in the 50 yrd pool and I&#39;m sure I can do the distance now. I just don&#39;t want to &quot;snatch defeat from the jaws of victory&quot; by overtraining in this last month and going from soreness to injury. Ron, I hope we have a chance to meet at Sharkfest, after the swim we plan to have a dram of Scotch for strictly medicinal purpose, if you would like to join us you&#39;re very welcome.

Unfortunately I did not enter in time for this year.

I am 53 and swim about 30 - 35 minutes for a mile in open water. I

swam 3,000 yds, 3 times a week to prepare for the swim and had no problems. The conditions were very favorable both times I swam.

it is a great event and well run. I agree with Gary. Stop and take a few looks at the skyline. It is quite a view.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: raining frequency for Sharkfest

That was to read Training not &quot;raining&quot; :^) I know it never rains in California.
                            Thanks Brian<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: raining frequency for Sharkfest

I`m 55 years old and am also training for the June 10 swim,...and yes,...I cannot swim everyday as I do not recover. My soreness expresses itself at nite,..while in bed,..sore shoulders,..but when I swim,..I experience no pain.

Sunday I swam around the Oceanside Pier ( california ) and felt absolutely fantastic in the water,..no pain,..no sluggishness,...limber,flexible, elastic. Monday, I swam a mile in 31 minutes in a 25 yard pool and felt great afterwards,..not winded. I did not swim on Tuesday and Tuesday night My body ached , I was sore. Tomorrow I`ll be &quot;leaning into the harness&quot; and will probably swim 1.5 miles in the pool.

The anticipation of the June 10 swim is giving me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, but I do believe that once I hit the water,..I`ll be fine.

The battle is in the mind<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: raining frequency for Sharkfest

Ron &amp; all others preparing for Alcatraz:

The roughest part of the Alcatraz swim is the so-called &quot;negative pit in the middle of your stomach.&quot; In other words, the roughest part is all the negative mental stuff running through your brain between now &amp; the time you jump off the ferry. Once you do jump, you will be in the moment and have the swim of a lifetime. One must do: halfway through the swim - stop for 10-15 seconds &amp; look behind you to really see the &quot;Rock&quot;; then look to your left to see the sun coming up over the Oakland hills; then look to your right to the brilliantly orange Golden Gate Bridge shimmering in the sunlight; and then :applaud: check out the majestic skyline of San Franciso. It&#39;s a mental video that will stay with you the rest of your life.

Have fun and enjoy the heck out of one of the best swims in the world.
