Finally got myself to the local h.s. pool, so now I have that membership as a back-up for times when I can't use the Y. It's actually a pretty nice pool too! Sharkbait, you're way ahead of me... four or five miles? I was at 3400 yards and am looking to reach 3600+ before the race. They'll be taking down the finish before I reach it, I'm afraid, but at least my bf will still wait for me--he's not swimming it, just spectating. (He's a runner, not a swimmer and has no intention to change that status.) George, what's a mere 4000 miles between friends? C'mon over to NJ and meet some of us U.S. Easterners! Good to hear you folk are going. Only one thing... how will I know you, since I've never seen any of you before? (I don't really look like a fish and haven't reached the point of swimming like one, so just watch for the last finisher....) ;)

I was registered for the 2 mile, but it turns out I will not be able to make it for Sept Splash. Best of luck to everyone who is swimming, and I hope I get to meet you in person at some point in the future! :)

It is only 4000 miles from home to NJ I have not been there since 1964. I would love to go but would only be a spectator. We are getting ready to head to Texas to get back in shape. I see you swim for Terrapin Masters. My brother Thurlow swam for U of M and my nephew Brian Park also swam for U o M, Brian is about 36 years old and was short but could really go in a 400m or 1500m. Brian still lives in Maryland and is a chiropractor there.

Good luck finding another pool. Family and work have kept me out of the water (last week I only made it to the pool twice, not the best way to get ready for a two mile swim). I'm like you, can go the distance (I do four to five miles in the pool and have done two in the ocean), but I'm sooo slooow. And I'm trying to build my running distance, too; just worked up to 5 miles and am hoping to get at least another 5K race in this season. I don't know how the triathletes keep up with three events. Hope I can make it to the Sept. Splash and meet you there!

Oh right, thanks for the link! Hope I see you all there... George, you should definitely go! My main desire is to finish the same day I start. ;) Well, okay, maybe a wee bit faster than that.... I have the distance but my speed still needs work... and now my Y pool is closing for maintenance for TWO WEEKS! :( I'm shopping for another pool but my Y is so perfect... within walking distance... Oh well... I'll work something out!

I'm registered to do the 2 miler! I did the one miler last year - VERY well-organized and a lot of fun. There is a chance I may not make it up there this year (family medical stuff), but we'll see.

I want to, but won't know if I can get away for another week or two. It's five hours away from where I live, so it would mean staying overnight, and family obligations might get in the way. I'd like to do the two mile event, and depending on how my two mile swim goes (Lake Montclair on Sept. 9), maybe I'll enter both. Good luck at the Sept. Splash and hope to see you there!
