24.94 53.58 (28.64)

Mr. Steel slightly improved his already-impressive 100 *** time from last night and with that he also improved his chances of getting an invite to NCAA&#39;s. Now look at his 3rd and 4th 50 splits, where he&#39;s warming down and just making sure to finish the event legally. See those times? OK. I did this 2 weeks ago:

This makes recruiting quite challenging for schools. Each year a D1 mens swimming &amp; Diving program has around 2.5 scholarships to divvy up. Pretty much everyone on the mens team has partial scholarships, except for walk ons. I believe Books count as a 1% of a scholarship. Most of the womens team are on full scholarships.

If an athlete receives a partial scholarship, then the school&#39;s academic admission standards for that athlete shift from whatever the school requires to the NCAA minimum standards which is a sliding scale that looks at the students GPA &amp; SAT score. The higher the students GPA the lower the required SAT score. The
2010-2011 Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete shows the scale on page 6.

As an example UT is pretty tough to get into, most students need to be in the top 10% of their classes to be accepted. Plus high school classes tend to shrink due to drop outs. I think my son&#39;s class started with over 500 students his fr year and but by the first semester of his sr year there were around 325.

How can most of the women swimmers have full scholarships when the roster size is typically double the number of scholarships? Perhaps 1 or 2 superstars have a full or near full, but I have been told that in Div 1, most are still partial. I know a diver offered a full at Iowa St this fall but she declined it for a different school.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2011 College Conference Championships

Pac 10 Men&#39;s Swimming and Diving

Yes. But from what I&#39;ve seen (a small sample size, admittedly) school standards for athletes are usually not the same as they are for non-athletes. And they aren&#39;t usually the same for all sports, either.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2011 College Conference Championships

The school still keeps its standards unless they are lower than the NCAA (which are pretty low)

I think the amount of scholarships available makes a difference. My college team had 3 - 4 full scholarships that were split between the mens team. For the big teams such as Auburn, Texas.etc. how many scholarships are usually allocated for the team?

Div 1 Womens Swimming and Diving Programs are allowed to have 14 scholarships

Div 1 Mens Swimming and Diving Programs are allowed to have 9.9 scholarships

How Many Swimming Scholarships ARE Available?
The NCAA Women&#8217;s Div I Swimming and Diving programs may offer a total of 14 full scholarships per schools, and the Men&#8217;s Swimming and Diving programs, 9.9. Considering the number of schools with women&#8217;s swim teams-- close to 200 for any given year--and the number with men&#8217;s swim teams, at about 140, the total number of swimming and diving scholarships available to Div I swimmers and divers is over 4,000. from Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s Swimming and Diving Scholarship Options

I think that the main difference between the bigger and smaller D1 conferences is not necessarily the speed. You will always have a few standout swimmers in the smaller conferences making NCAA cuts. It is the depth on the teams, from team to team, from top to bottom that sets the bigger schools apart.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2011 College Conference Championships

Oddly enough, she swam the exact same time in finals. 46.81.
