I am looking for guidelines for how much to increase my weekly distance by. My overall goals are to reach 1000 miles for the year and to swim several 5k races (and possibly a few 10k races plus the 10 mi &#39;Swim the Suck&#39; in the Tennessee river

RE: Increasing weekly distance

the simple math is that you will need to avg 4822 yds/day or 33,750 yds/week to hit 1000 miles for the year.

most masters swimmers i know avg much less and some still compete at a pretty high level in events 10k and under.

i try to get at least 8,000 - 10,000 yds 1 day/week and as soon as its warm enough outside, i&#39;ll add a 6 - 8 hour swim every other week.

What he said.....more is always better. Train harder and smarter. I did several 5K&#39;s last year and one 10K and did 500 miles on the Go The Distance. I ramp up my yardage certain times of the year to establish the base, then will level off and drop at taper times.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Increasing weekly distance

the simple math is that you will need to avg 4822 yds/day or 33,750 yds/week to hit 1000 miles for the year.
