It really IS calming to watch George swim past all those tourists as if they're not even there. Now that school's out for a few weeks I've finally been able to close the textbooks and read "Wind, Waves, and Sunburn", in which George features many times. Wind Waves and Sunburn is a pretty accurate little read. I had a great time during those days. I always remember telling Billy Barton about the Sharks that swam up the St Lawrence River, then swimming up the Saguenay River into the Bai De Ha Ha which of course was a fabrication. I tried my best to phyc everyone. The odd Baluga did do that swim into the Bai de Ha Ha. Or telling other swimmers that I used Slones Linament as my drink to keep me warm in cold water.

If any of you are on Facebook, I highly recommend befriending George, my Canadian daddy who is still trying to get me covered under the Canadian universal health care system, and watching his very smooth freestyle swimming in what appears to be a Mexican resort complete with submerged Mai Tai and Pina Colada bar. Sure, the beverages are relaxing, but even us teetotallers can find peace in watching George's lovely and langurous freestyle as he crosses the vacationer-dappled curvilinear resort pool. Johnny would have no doubt given him a thumbs up! It really IS calming to watch George swim past all those tourists as if they're not even there. Johhny did a great call for us at a prerace dinner in Hamilton Ontario before the 10 mile race at Confederation Park. He was the starter. He started the race with a 10 gauge shot gun.

I have to laugh. How many of you have spoke to Johnny, how would you even be able to give an answer What would he think? I am sure would laugh at the question at first. Then give you his answer, I am sure he would try the gadgets out and give you his thoughts which may agree with you or not. I would more than likely agree with his answer. His first answer would be his elephant call.

How would you feel if you were "newish" and posted something, just to have the 1st response be a shoot-down? :bitching: That wasn't harsh or a put down. I stated that I don't see why his particular opinion would be of anymore importance than any other swimmer today or from the past that has done this sport I really just comes down to a few who feel the need to put a negative spin on their posts and be critical of others. And, I shall remind you that none other than Speedo himself referred to my 1-beat kick as "the most beautiful and glorious kick I have ever seen." Look TP, Speedo had to say something after seeing you swim. I am sure that was the most polite way of saying "i ain't ever seen two pieces of straw do so much moving yet go no where at the sametime."

Instead, I was talking in generalities, regarding my personal experiences on the forums, as well as posts I have read directed at others We all know that you were talkin about ol toothpick legs when you made the comment. I just added the names(probably mine too) so there wouldn't be any doubt about who you were griping at this time,since it wasn't HOA. He's not been negative, just stated his opinions.

I wonder what one of the greatest swimmers of all time would think about all these gadgets like pool bouys, kickboards, paddles,flipflops,nose clips ect..? Keep afloat Skipper :fish2: Why would his opinion matter anymore than any other swimmer on this forum or in the sport? There are good swimmers that don't use any equipment. There are good swimmers that love to use equipment. Tarzan wouldn't carry anymore weight on the opinion than any other swimmer that uses/doesn't use equipment

He's quoted about the lane line innovations. And he was apparently very keen on good technique. Something which all the water toys try to promote.
