That is one drill I have done: kick freestyle on stomach, arms at sides, and imagine your neck is wearing a cervical collar, so you have to rotate your whole body to breathe, not just your neck.
 
Also, in the attached video (you have to watch 2/3 of it before you get to the freestyle kicking drill), Natalie Coughlin does this same drill, only it&amp;#39;s quite amazing to watch her do it. I don&amp;#39;t have the strength to breathe without overrotating and essentially looking at the ceiling (and be almost on my back) for a minute, but she does. I can do this drill with fins and get the idea.
