Jimmy was not paid very well. When my Brother Bob came home being medically discharged from the 2nd WW, Bob was injured in a bombing raid. Jimmy bought a Taxi and worked out of my brothers Taxi Stand (Veterans' Taxi) to earn extra money. The taxis were dispatched from my house and whenever Jimmy was not at the pool he worked out of our house. When the war was over he helped many of the vetrans buy taxis to work out of my brothers taxi business. Jobs were hard to get after the war.

Wow - I hope I can find a way to leave a legacy like that some day. That's amazing.

My H S swim coach shaped my career. Dave Walrey of REAVIS H S in Burbank, Il , was the best person I had meet in H S . His example of coach & teacher is what I became in my 41 years of teaching & 22 years of girls & 12 years of swim coaching.

Great! Some of us have been lucky to learn under legends like him. You were certainly one. So was I. Here's an article about the man I was lucky enough to call my first coach and mentor. I still use his teaching philosophy and methods in my classroom as I did in the pool teaching swimming under his guidance more than 50 years ago.
