Little info about Greensboro.

Greensboro, North Carolina is a medium-sized city, not small but not a big city like Atlanta. Greensboro has about 260,000 people and is actually bigger than Birmingham, AL. The combined metro region of Greensboro (The Piedmont Triad/Greensboro,Winston-Salem, High Point) has 1.6 million people so this is not a small town. Greensboro has a vibrant urban nightlife and is the third largest city in North Carolina after Charlotte and Raleigh. Greensboro is home to Lorillard Tobacco Company, maker of Newport cigarettes and the city is also home to fortune 500 company VF Corp, maker of Wranger, Lee jeans and other major apparel brands. The insurance division of Lincoln Financial is also headquartered in Greensboro. The city is home of the Atlantic Coast Conference and local officials have marketing the city as &quot;Tournament Town&quot; . In 1974 Greensboro host the Men&#39;s Final Four college basketball championship as well as many ACC basketball tournaments. The PGA Wyndham Championship is played here and next year the Greensboro Coliseum will host the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championship.

The 2012 championships will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center which is under construction at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. It will seat 2,500 people and will be 74,000 square feet.

Ground was broken in May, 2010. Seems like it should be done in time. Scheduled completion is July, 2011. I just goggled it and there is &quot;a major announcement scheduled&quot; for Monday @ 11:30, hmmm. Greensboro is 2 hours north of Charlotte. It traditionally has very cheap airfares, for some unknown reason(s).<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Nationals 2012

Correct - 30 years ago many thing did not hurt or need replacing!!!:cane:<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Nationals 2012

Greensboro is going to be a tough sell for me, but it should be decent location for those on the east coast. Kirk,
I believe nationals were held at Irvine in 1981. My main memories were being impressed by a facility with two 50M courses, getting DQ&#39;d in the 100 fly and doing an all out foot race on the beach the night before my first events and not feeling sore the next day (Oh, to be 36 years old). We stayed in Laguna Beach which was fantastic. I&#39;d definitely do that again.
