Is 1 hour the required time per swim, or can you do say 1.5 hour? One gets you 4.5 hours of sleep, the other 7. But maybe it doesn't work that way. Battling the water temp is what gets me! Yikes.

And the legend grows ... One of the six relay swimmers was at the pool workout at 5:30 this morning, less than 18 hours after the relay finish.

This was impressive on a number of levels. Not just physically, but the planning and logistics, too. These guys should write a book about it. I'd at least like to see a story about it in SWIMMER!

Wow, this is pretty unbelievable. I live just north of the area these guys started their swim out from - it is not warm at all. The fact that these guys went on so little sleep too - couldn't have gotten more then a few hours at a time. Amazing.

Ventura Deep Six Relay Team Just over 6 miles from shore - we're starting to get a clear view of the coast. Jim McConica, Kurt Baron & John Chung have completed their 17th swim - Mike Shaffer is now in the water and will be followed by Tom Ball and Jim Neitz which should take us to shore! Latest Facebook posting from the relay team. I am so impressed with this effort. I hope they all get the recognition they deserve for this awesome feat. Rich

Relay is going to finish in La Jolla Cove around noon today! Freekin long amazing swim for these US masters swimmers... Anyone who swims competitive meets knows many of the guys. I would like to know more about this. How did the relay work? 2 miles per swimmer so you had to swim every 10 miles? Also what constitutes a "relay" according to Guiness? Is 6 the most you can have for it to count? This was a cool thing to do, but I think the record will be broken because, well, that is what records are for.

Each swimmer swam for one hour without any stopping whatsoever. They swam all day and all night for four days! I believe this is FINA rules so no wetsuits. All they had was jammer, goggles and cap. This was no easy feat by any stretch of the imagination. The previous record was 78 miles in a lake. This was over 200 miles in the ocean with temperatures ranging from 59 - 66 degrees. Add to that was the support crew including the 129 foot boat and two chase boats that had to be rented. Not to mention a massage therapist, medical team and chef. This record will NOT be broken for a very looooooong time. Go Ventura Deep 6!!!:applaud:

Latest report has them only 59 miles from the finish and 13 miles to go to double the listed world record. They passed the listed record late Friday night. Just an awesome, awe inspiring effort!

Ventura Deep Six have broken the existing world record for open water relay swimming. They have passed the 78 mile mark and have "only" 124 miles to go. Go Ventura!!
