And if Bakhuis mistakenly stopped at the 1450, shouldn't he have been able to swim another 50 to avoid the DQ? :dunno: You'd think so. Maybe he got out of the pool before realizing his mistake. Not sure why, though, since the other swimmer still had nearly 500 meters left to swim. AHO is the Netherlands Antilles, by the way.

Whatever Lochte is doing in training is obviously paying off....he is head and shoulders about everyone. Look at the 4 x 200 free relay split.

Isn't there a theory that your fly and free splits in an IM should be as close as possible? Lochte was 54.6 for fly and 54.3 for free.

Video of the race is not up yet; I'm looking forward to watching it. It's amazing that Lochte, whose strongest leg is supposed to be the backstroke, was so far behind the world record pace after that leg and still smashed the record by so much. Lochte breaks 400 IM scm WRI am pretty impressed with Mellouli's 2nd place 3:57, as well. I didn't know he was such a stronger IMer ... he was only a couple of tenths off the old Cseh world record.
