It doesn't need to be huge, but it needs to be big enough to encompass all limbs when stretched out at their maximum. I'm also looking for something durable and comfortable to lie on. You mean "on the mat," right? I was looking for a mat that was large enough so that I could do a lot of different floor stretches and not have my body on the mat with a limb or limbs dangling off. Besides being a bit uncomfortable, it makes the stretch a bit uncertain. Plus it's easier to have a bigger mat -- you're not constantly readjusting yourself to the center of the mat. Anyway, it feels very luxurious to me to have such a big mat. :-)

RE: Exercise mat suggestions?

Tiffin Folding Mats (I have used these for years)

Dollamur Home Mats (official mat of USA wrestling)

Just to follow up -- I ended up getting a Dollamur Mat, specifically a "Carpeted Home Flexi Mat," 4' X 6'. It was delivered very fast and it's a great mat. It's thick and firm, but with enough give so that nothing digs in. I like the carpeted top, too, better than a slippery mat top.

Oddly, though, their website seems to be down now. Hopefully, that's just temporary. If not, I'm glad I got my mat in time!

Thanks again for the suggestion!

RE: Exercise mat suggestions?

Tiffin Folding Mats (I have used these for years)

Thank you -- those look like nice mats and I hadn't turned them up in my own search.

RE: Exercise mat suggestions?

So I understand: the standard Yoga mats or the ones most gyms have that are just really long but relatively narrow aren't okay?

Yeah, as best as I can tell the standard mats are 2 ft wide, and I think I want one that is at least 3 ft wide. I hate it when I am stretching and parts of me are off of the mat.

RE: Exercise mat suggestions?

Tiffin Folding Mats (I have used these for years)
