hmmm I guess the engineers have done their sums, but it does seem like a lot of weight on top of that thin looking deck! I reckon I'd still give it a go though! I heard the designer say on T.V the other night that whilst it was being constructed they had a significant earthquake....the structure obviously survived! I don't think the deck is all that thin. At least 3 stories thick based on this picture. picasaweb.google.com/.../CrwUbpLNN_4eYMDw5_PsZw Singapore's building code probably has to account for hurricanes, typhoons and earthquakes given its location.

Still, I find it a bit unnerving that the pool structure is a thin, narrow strip laid over three buildings... just how sturdy is that structure? hmmm I guess the engineers have done their sums, but it does seem like a lot of weight on top of that thin looking deck! Intriguing looking pool--I suppose if you stood next to the edge, you'd have a different experience than those of us looking at the photo--the models standing against the edge don't look at all worried ('course they may have been given Xanax before the photo shoot...). Still, I find it a bit unnerving that the pool structure is a thin, narrow strip laid over three buildings... just how sturdy is that structure? I suspect I'd be thinking about the position of the pool vis a vis the buildings under it and would swim very fast over the portions with nothing but sky underneath. (Might be good for sprint workouts though!) :)

I had an odd thought about this pool over the weekend... Turn that into a wave pool.... scariest water ride evar! :afraid: Just thinking about that made me a little bit ill. *shudder* Cool pool, but my healthy respect for heights would keep me far, far from the edge. Oh, who am I kidding, I'd probably freak out before I even made it over to the pool.

The pool is beautiful,but it is not straight&no lane lines.If you want to combine the joy of open water with the fear of falling to your death it's OK.

A couple weeks ago while vacationing in Vancouver, I swam at the Kitsilano outdoor pool. It is 150 yards (137 meters) long for lap swimming. The interim lengths are marked on the bottom of the pool as you swim along. -Rick That's the pool I learned to swim in. It used to be about twice as big, and was originally a tidal pool. The water was changed once or twice a week simply by letting it run out when the tide was down and run in as the tide rose. Before I could swim I almost drowned there because I waded out to the wall to join some friends while the pool was filling, spent a couple of hours lounging on the wall, then jumped back in only to find the water over my head! They filled in much of the pool with concrete in the mid-1980s, and now they fill what remains half with sea water, half with fresh and are able to heat it a couple degrees to extend the season a week or two. I'm looking forward to swimming there again this summer when I go back for a visit.

Long Course? Wouldn't that be more like Marathon Course? No, 3 pools totaling 450 feet is about 3 long course pools. I don't think the pools are continuous.

It is a very impressive structure and was sadly still under construction while I was in Singapore in April. I believe there are 3 pools totaling 450ft in length. I bet that would be an interesting long course practice.

OH. MY. GOD. Jayhawk can probably relate to WHY I just said that! Having Meniere's, you won't catch me swimming at the edge of that pool...:afraid: For me it's fear of falling off!
