Basically, he is calling for a vote on tech suits, something that should have been done prior to USMS decision to join in FINA&#39;s ban of techsuits:

It seems to me in most sports it is not the athletes who get to dictate what the rules should be.

This &quot;new&quot; poll (on another thread) is launched in an effort to quiet swimmers who felt they did not have a voice in the decisions made in masters swimming last year.

Regardless of the outcome, there is no doubt that this USMS Discussion Forum represents only a very small percentage of the membership.

Communication out to coaches who will then speak to their swimmers is the only solution for flowing out new information.
However we still don&#39;t have direct communication with a large percent of masters coaches and workout group leaders.

Until that situation improves, there are always going to be athletes paying their USMS dues with no voice in the decisions of the organization.

I&#39;m very happy we finally have a paid Club Development Committee at USMS.
Hope to see them choose coach communication as their #1 priority.
(only my personal opinion)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Tech Suit Proposal - How about a vote?

Can triathletes wear them in competition?

The Chair wrapped up the swim suit discussion by reminding the audience that she had directed the Rules Committee members to poll their local swimmers and to review the USMS discussion forums to gain insight as to the wishes of the USMS members.&quot;

And it was debated here extensively. The idea that somehow USMS enacted this rule unilaterally and without sufficient input from the membership seems bizarre to me.

Also it seems a little disingenuous to me to say the membership wasn&#39;t adequately polled, so because of this we should allow tech suits for short course yards. Where&#39;s the polling for this decision?

edit: OK, I see now that this proposal is calling for polling of the SPMA membership, but it doesn&#39;t really say what the results need to be to go ahead with the amendment. if USS swimmers can&#39;t wear the suits
and NCAA swimmers can&#39;t wear the suits
and FINA swimmers can&#39;t wear the suits...

is it economically possible for a company to turn a profit selling a product ONLY to a certain portion of the masters swimming community? It just doesn&#39;t seem to be enough of a consumer base if the only people using them are Masters swimmers.
