lochte looked incredible at nationals. Will we see the first WR of 2010 in the 200 IM at pan pacs? Good call but I will go with no. Lochte has a history of swimming better at the meet before the BIG meet. Most (but not all) of his best college swims were at conference, not NCAA and he did swim better at Trials than at the Games. Hope I am wrong though.

Will they be on any channel? I don't think so. I watched my team mate, James, take 19th in the 200 fly yesterday on line. Very nice swim.

It was on the last day and none of his main events were on that day. I guess he figured he had nothing to lose by doing it. also, it is because he is Phelps and he can do whatever he wants at this point in his career. He does like to race and maybe that is why he did it.

Looking though the results it was nice to see that distance swimming may be making a bit of a comeback. Half of the top 8 were teenagers. #10 in the mile was 15-years old from Knoxville, Evan Pinion, in 15:25. He was also 3:53 in the 400 with a group of teenagers right there. Good to see. In addition, the kids are probably realizing how much better the LC 400, 800, and 1500 than the yards version. I wish that I had the opportunity to do more 800/1500s LCM in my age group days. Arthur Frayler had a superb 1500 last night. He is one to watch. Plus, it helps that he trains with Fran Crippen.

There were several swimmers who were struggling without the tech suits, ie Shanteau and Clary. I can't think of any girls that were struggling without the suits. Soni will probably break the WR record in both breaststrokes. I rather see 1 or 2 world records broken than 50 WRs broken at a Major Meet.

Are they going to leave a swimmer off the Pan Pac team who posted a time ranked 5th in the world this year (tied with Cullen, obviously) over what appears to be an assistant coach's mistake that led to a violation of an administrative rule? I'm not in the "rules are rules" camp on this one. It's not like he slowed down the meet or prevented another swimmer from swimming by missing the 100fly. The letter of the law was violated, but in the spirit of the law, I don't see where the harm was done. Rules exist to facilitate, they do not exist door their own sake. A "rule is a rule" mind set devalues discernment and intellect. I also think there is no place for the scratch rule in elite swimming. Every latitude should be given to the athlete to determine what is best for their performance. Y

So , can I by mistake , wear my TECH suit & still swim ? I think that if you show up to suit inspection with a tech suit, you get DQed and they get the scissors out and start cutting the suit up!!!!! :) I guess that you can't swim or maybe get to change suits??
