The 'free' suit I had was too long, so I went old school That's right, a tiny Speedo (actually TYR). It looks like I will go through life without experiencing the rush of a tech suit. Don't get me wrong, I plan to keep wearing a wetsuit in open water. Definitely don't like the cold.

A few other thoughts.
1) There is some seriously fast swimming here!
2) I don't think it has anything to do with 'the suits'. Next year will be even faster!
3) If you have never come to this meet, you have to check it out. Truly incredible atmosphere.
4) Swimming in the 1996 Olympic pool will be a memory that I cherish forever.

RE: Wearing a tech suit at Nationals?

It's day three of the meet, and I now realize how ridiculous my original question was. 99.9% of the swimmers here are wearing tech suits.

the jury is still out on how fast people(who wore the tech suits at Altanta) will swim next year.

I would rather swim in the 1996 Olympic pool in LCM. Sorry, swimming at a Olympic pool in yards doesn't have the same panache. That is my :2cents:.

sorry to hear about your "free suit" issues. Yeah, you really have to be in one of those suits to compete there. I talked to quite a few people at local meets who didn't go to Nationals because of the suits. My reasons were more financial and May 20 is just way too late to be having yards meets.

I will always cherish my 2009 Nationals at Indy. It was a real treat. :applaud:

RE: Wearing a tech suit at Nationals?

No matter what you say Mollie... Whose technique is perfect? No one. Everyone person that swims at the elite level, age group, masters, has flaws in their stroke.

RE: Wearing a tech suit at Nationals?

My best time was in $25 speedo shorts.

Either my tech suit was a lousy brand or I'm not fast enough yet for it to make a difference what suit I wear. Any thoughts? Are most of you wearing tech suits, or going old school?

Thanks!
I think you should try it. If nothing else, you will be able to have some insight on the question when the issue comes up again in a couple of years and USA swimming and FINA long for the days when swimming and the "suits" were front page news.

One thing - try it out before this weekend. You have a different feel in the water, especially in breaststroke.

RE: Wearing a tech suit at Nationals?

I graduated college in 1999, just before tech suits took over the world. Burn your friends suit! :) I kid.

If you got the suit for free, wear it. But, after Nationals, start fresh and put those nationals times into a lockbox and don't reference them for future times. Some Olympic-caliber swimmers are having issues gauging where they are with their times without the cheating suits. I believe that was partly his point, George...

To the OP: you certainly won't feel out of place in a tech suit at nationals, if that's what you are getting at. I predict the majority of people will be wearing body suits. So if you have free access to one and it fits snugly (ie, it won't take on water), go for it.

RE: Wearing a tech suit at Nationals?

Marc, I will be easy to spot for the video analysis; I'll be in my funky purple and white Speedo Endurance TRAINING suit with the flower pattern! This is actually pretty rare for GoSwim.tv but Glenn obviously had a good message to send to the masters and I appreciate that part of the clip.

But regardless, swimmers do watch this sort of technique and come back asking questions.
Believe me, when I swim in lanes next to my own swimmers they have plenty to critique on my strokes!

Full apologies to Bill if I hurt his feelings. But again, I hope to meet him in a warm-up lane.
