Some people were actually selling the idea to their friends as they walked up to the booth. I heard enough to make me want to give it a try--when I get back in shape and can send in some decent video!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Recommend stroke analysis by The Athlete Village?

Here&#39;s the scoop: I decided to have The Athlete Village film my 200 breaststroke, because this is the event I would like to get best at in breaststroke. Unfortunately, by Sunday, I was a mess from lack of good sleep; mostly because of my exposure to the heat/humidity at the pool. I have medical issues with that (heat intolerance...), so it caught up with me. No excuses; I beat my seed time, but my arms and legs felt like I had weights strapped to them by the halfway mark and my stroke and turns fell apart. Uggghhh; I had been doing better in practice... :badday:

Anyway, the analysis is complete. See it and judge for yourself whether it was worth it for me to have it done. Personally, I feel it was! The only thing missing was advice on how to make my starts better off the blocks, before I hit the water. I may have had a quick start, but I KNOW my hips aren&#39;t getting up and my left leg drags...

Make sure to watch the short tutorial so you understand how the software works. It is a MUST to listen to the commentary; otherwise you&#39;ll lose too much. (If you use AOL like I do and can&#39;t hear the commentary, access The Athlete Village website via the web-based AOL or use Internet Explorer.)

I will be curious to hear your feedback on the video analysis! And, any feedback on my stroke (other than what the coach already told me) would be appreciated. Just don&#39;t laugh, ok? Remember, I&#39;m a newbie (February 2010)! :D :bliss:<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Recommend stroke analysis by The Athlete Village?

having a response time issue myself

Unfortunately we are booked the weekend of the Bay Swim. We will come and tape you next year.

Elaine,
Looking forward to meeting you at the pool this weekend. If you are interested in underwater video, I would suggest that you use our standard stroke analysis product. This is only $49.99. There are a few options to get the underwater footage.

1) You can grab an inexpensive underwater camera such as Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera.
2) We can video you from underwater at the meet (in the warm down pool if there is some quiet time).
3) If you have a group that is interested in video, we can send out a team to come video your entire team.
4) We can mail you an underwater camera to use at your convenience, and you send it back when you are done.

Tom,
I am really sorry for the delay. You were part of a large group of orders (over 150 analyses came in over a one week period), and unfortunately, yours was the last one on the list. Please check your email for details. As you know, we have a 100% Satisfaction guarantee. Details are in the email. Thanks for your patience. You are going to love your analysis. Once you have a chance to see what it is all about, please come back to the forum and share your thoughts.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Recommend stroke analysis by The Athlete Village?

Come on Marc, can&#39;t you do analysis of the Bay Swim? Once answer you missed: Which event would you video and analyze: 50, 100, or 200 breaststroke? Would the choice be mine?

Woops, missed that one. It is totally up to you. We typically limit you on a full race analysis to a 200. Maybe for you the 100 would be a good choice. We could see you in fast sprint mode, and by lap 4, we should be able to pick up what happens as you fatigue (not that you will fatigue, I am sure you will have a great finish!). Anything longer than a 200, and the video files get huge.

We do have custom capabilities as well. For example, we are doing the official race analysis at the 10 k USA Open Water National Championships in June. <a href="http://www.pacificopenwater.com/open-water-swimming-conference">www.pacificopenwater.com/open-water-swimming-conference</a><div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Recommend stroke analysis by The Athlete Village?

I had stroke analysis done by Athlete Village and it was great. Ok, thanks for letting me know. I&#39;ll have to think about it... 1) The video taping is free. Normally our customers submit their own video, but since we will be on site, we are happy to do it for you. So yes, it is included in the $79.99

2) The fact that you are unique is exactly what we are all about. When we enter your order, it is important to provide all of your specific information to our coaches. They will base your stroke analysis on your unique attributes, injuries, etc.

3) The analysis you get back is a fully interactive experience including audio comments, written comments, and graphics right on the screen. You have control to move through out the key positions of your stroke / race. Since you have to interact with it, it is not available on a DVD. Your analysis is secured in a private locker on our account. You can share it with friends, coaches, and teammates.

Looking forward to meeting you.

This is Marc Randell. I work for The Athlete Village. Yes, we will be on site at USMS nationals. We will be there for a few reasons.

1) To meet with USMS members, and answer any questions that you might have about our services.
2) To video races for USMS members that are interested in getting our full race analysis.
3) I am swimming the 100Fly and 100Free!

A few things you should know about The Athlete Village.

Every analysis is 100% guaranteed. What this means is if you do not love it and tell your friends to have their stroke analyzed, we refund your money. It&#39;s that easy.

Our full race analysis product is $79.99. This is an analysis of your entire race including stroke technique, start, turns, stroke counts, what happens as you fatigue, etc... This product is almost always complete with only above water video. There are example that you can see on the site at www.theathletevillage.com

Hi Marc, thanks for replying! I checked out your website before I posted my thread and thought the analysis was interesting. I see how it can be very helpful.

So, does the $79.99 including the videotaping at Nationals? I&#39;m swimming 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke. Which event would you analyze? Does a DVD come with it or would I only be able to access my analysis on your website?

Also, I have had to make significant changes to my stroke due to past surgeries/ injuries to keep me in this sport for the long haul. My outsweep, for example, is not an OUTsweep. It&#39;s more like an oval, keeping my forearms inside my elbows. And, my kick isn&#39;t as narrow as I know it should be for optimal speed. Will the coach work with my limitations and make suggestions as to how to make my stroke the most efficient and fastest, keeping my limitations in mind? I wouldn&#39;t want to receive an analysis full of comments like, &quot; You need to make a wider outsweep!&quot; or &quot;Your knees are too wide!&quot; I already know that...

My goal is to get as fast as I can WITHIN my physical limitations. If I reach my maximum potential with my limitations and can&#39;t get any faster unless I alter my stroke significantly, then I will have to be satisfied with that, rather than risk another RSI (and surgery).

I&#39;ll look forward to meeting you on Friday! :)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Recommend stroke analysis by The Athlete Village?

I ditto Lucky McCharm! I had this done last summer at LCM Nationals, and found the video, stroke analysis, and drills to be very helpful. After he does the video-taping, he does an analysis of the strokes and he recommends drills and sets to refine technique and improve performance. You get a DVD w/your swims on it, and you also get a printout of the drills/sets that he recommends.

I think he will have a sign-up/registration in the same vendor area as Athletes Village. Again, I thought it was really valuable as I was able to make stroke changes pretty quickly.

In a recent Nationals newsletter that was emailed to Nationals participants, The Athlete Village was listed as a vendor who will be located in the &quot;Athlete Services Area&quot;. I checked out their website and their stroke analysis looks interesting. An analysis of a race, including starts, stroke, and turns is $79.99, and I would have to send it a video. Of course, an underwater video is preferred... Anyway, I thought I would just throw the question out there.
