I will follow your tips. You gave some hell of informations. Man those times for kicking are crazy. My kicking is really nothing compared to guys like gary hall jr,Ian crocker,Shaun jordan etc..................... And your time for 25 meter kick................... is also crazy. Was it from a push or a dive ??? By the way this wasn&#39;t really the information I was looking for. I want to know about 25 meter freestyle times of the elites without the SUITS. You know some of the top swimmers and coaches. Come on man you must know the best 25 meter freestyle time of the elites off the block. I was talking about gary jr&#39;s 25 meter freestyle time off the block. And in the race club forum some guy said that gary did a 25 freestyle off the block in 10.00 (he was unshaved and wearing briefs). I want to know what time the other elites clock. Can anybody do that under 10????????????? Have you ever seen anybody do that?????????? Thank you again for giving us informations about the elite swimmers kicking. I feel very inspired to improve my kick and make it as good as them................................................<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: My kicking video

Nice kicking video!

I swam at Long Beach (Phillips 66) in the late 70&#39;s and we did a lot of kicking with a board (usual warm up set for our aching legs: 5 x 200 kicking). My PB for 100 yards butterfly kick with a board back then was about 1:00 (but my memory is pretty hazy).

Tim Shaw (anybody remember him?) could easily kick a 100 yards in 55 seconds. He used to do kick sets with tennis shoes and one of his favorite things to do was to use a table like a kick board. He looked like a ski-doo!

I think almost all of the Olympic caliber swimmers at Phillips 66 had tremendous kicking speed.

For what it&#39;s worth, I think it would be fun to do a postal kick event (25, 50, 100, 200) in each stroke.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: My kicking video

Guys, BTW I have gotta couple of questions. Why is kicking without board faster than with board or is it just me? It&#39;s normal to be faster without a board. It has to do with body position.

I have heard that some of the elite swimmers can kick 50 meters on a board in less than 30 seconds, if that is true then howcome they do it?????? Yes it&#39;s true. And the faster flutter kicker I&#39;ve seen so far would even do 1:09 over 100m with a board.
Does anybody know what are the fastest times for 25 meters freestyle from the block (without the SUITS). I have read in the race club forum that once gary hall jr did a 10 flat off the blocks in training. The 25m free used to be swam back to the days I was coaching in a University. Most good sprinters would touch under 11 (of course) and the few that can do a 50 SCM in 22s could go under 10 depending on their profile. Currently, the world record over 50m free SCM is U21. So...<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: My kicking video

congratulations on your progress

How does jumping ability factor in? Just for dives and push-offs? @shahboz : Seems like a very interesting idea. I will give it a try. Thank you.

@SolarEnergy : Thank you. Your words were inspiring. My dolphin kick is not really strong. Well its faster than my flutter kick but not quite good enough. I don&#39;t have a coach so I have to learn everything on my own. So its pretty difficult for me. I don&#39;t even know how to get a balanced workout in which I can work on everything on a daily basis. But I strongly believe that if I start to work on my SDK, I can be very good.

I&#39;ve been 10.9 for 25 yards, so 25 meters is probably a bit over 12

Gary is one of the fastest flutter kickers who ever went to UT
Gary could flutter kick 100 yards in around 55

Shaun Jordan kicked 50 yards with a board from a dive wearing a brief in the late 80&#39;s early 90&#39;s in 23.3.

Ian Crocker was an excellent flutter kicker,
he kicked a 50 from a push with a board in around 24.6 and a
100 in 53 or 54
though his SDK was much faster, in his prime I bet he could easily SDK a 100 yards with one stroke into each flip turn under 43 or 44 seconds
he could probably SDK 25 yards in 9.2 or 3

People are much faster without boards.
Boards have much more drag,
you make 2 fists at the end of the board to hold it
try SDKing with 2 fists fast for time instead of flat streamlined hands

You could try the same thing in a long axis position (one arm up and one arm down). This will put your body in a position closer to how you swim (with a body roll). You can do it with a snorkel and focus only on the kick.

So anybody else interested to help me?????????????? Well, you&#39;re already under 15sec on 25m flutter kick. I don&#39;t think you need any help.

The kicking mechanics shown on your clip is near perfection. I say near but honestly, I can&#39;t find any flaws to it. Body position is great, very streamlined.

And like you discovered, these old cliches about the need to keep the kicking in the water (as opposed to taping over the surface) are totally wrong.

If I had one little tiny advise: Now that you master the flutter kick very well, you should introduce a SDK portion to those sprints and see what impact it has on time. You may get even faster with let&#39;s say 5 or 6 SDK prior starting the flutter kicking action, who knows!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: My kicking video

Looks good to me.
