Either for fun or training. Cressi claims that one can swim at eight knots with them for a short period of time.

This is a great point. You can do a kick workout as a "recovery day" for the upper body, still get the heart rate way up, and improve your kick all at the same time.

RE: Kicking question???

I regularly use a monofin. But it's not very long; it's designed especially for kicking. It's the Finis shooter MF, 20 by 18 inches, www.swimoutlet.com/.../2181.htm. With my toy, I've kicked 20 seconds for 50 yards and 23 for 50 meters (long course). The speed is super fun! :)

Awesome!!! with lcm coming up I want to look at ways of grinding through it.

I borrowed someone's scuba fins and was swimming (cruising) 8 second 25's and the light went on. Initially, I started the first 25 and in the first 5 yards i cramped up because i was trying to kick like i had zoomers on. once i modified my kick i couldn't believe the speed.

The speed was just nuts. I'd like to try it again in a 50 meter and really go all out.
