That's because you live in Arizona where the humidity is nearly zero most of the year. When you live in other parts of the country, it can take days for a towel or a swimsuit to dry by evaporation. For me, I leave my swim stuff in the car (that way I never forget something) my stuff never dries out, especially if I don't use the spinner.

RE: Poll: Use of Suit Dryers

I don't use them. Horrendous!

I find the suit spinner very useful. If you hang a wet suit it can easily get stretched out, losing its shape.

I am very surprised to hear these horrible stories of abusing the spinner.

On another note, what do you think of the towels provided by the facilities? Do they disinfect them? I think they simply put them in the washer. Some seem very dirty. One pool I went uses very dark-colored towels, perhaps on purpose, so that you can't tell how dirty they are. :(

RE: Poll: Use of Suit Dryers

Ewwwwww!

Oftentimes I will wear different clothes before/after my swim. One would be work clothes; the others would be something casual and quick to change into between home and the pool.

I've never seen anyone doing the disgusting stuff described in this thread, but now I'm starting to wonder. Maybe I haven't seen any of that behavior because I always work out at 5:30 AM with the Masters swimmers and am not around when the main crowds come in and trash the place. Maybe what appears to be a clean and peaceful pool locker room is really full of festering germs from the beastlike crowds that pillaged the place the night before. Thanks a lot people, for the mental images.

For the last couple of weeks it's been freezing, but I still hang my stuff up in the car while I'm at work.

Anyway, I'd never heard of folks abusing suit spinners, but now that I have, I'm going to stop using them. I've seen some pretty sketchy behavior by guys at my gym.

There's one fellow I strongly suspect is using the swimming pool as a bathtub between rounds in the sauna -- even tho showers are right next to the sauna. Brett - the dryer is a stainless steel basket that spins & removes excessive water with centrifugal force – I should have used the correct terminology “Swimsuit Water Extractor”. This is very convenient for those of us that go from the pool directly to work with the swim bag in the trunk & is especially helpful during the winter months. Many times at the end of the day when I get home & hang the suits up they are frozen solid (try putting on an ice cold speedo some time that was left in the trunk overnightL). They thaw & dry much faster each night with the excessive moisture removed via the suit dryer.

RE: Poll: Use of Suit Dryers

I just wring out my polyester suit and let it drip dry.I always lose them before they wear out so this seems to work and I don't have any commingling issues.I would never put a meet suit in a spinner anyway.
