As far as I can tell, there are plenty of scary fast guys/gals in every age group. But the other thing that's scary is that new names pop up regularly swimming remarkable times - an example in my age group: Jamie Fowler, Back/IM stud. This can only get worse!

Just took a peek and was surprised I got in top 10 thus far. In 40-44 currently 4th in 100 fly and 5th in 200fly. Kinda a bummer I did this meet first week in Novemeber and was not even in shape. Wish I could have one more shot at a 25 meter meet now that Im in shape. Oh well, it is what it is, onto short course yards now :)

I be thrilled just to be in the TOP 10 in the Dixie Zone for anything I swam at the St. Nicks Meet. That is the only SCM meet I did (and first meet since April), I wasn't rested, and I wore a VERY low tech, poly Speedo Endurance Square Leg suit.:applaud:

In no particular order and my appologies for the other 20 I could name but am too lazy to do so: Hochstein, Ross, Hiltabiddle, Santos, Ammon, Brundage, Benucci, Varozza, blah, blah, blah, blah Yeah, 40-44 is a hoot. I wish I could pay money and go back to 39. ... and I was only referencing 45-49 BR, not any of the other, lesser strokes.

Right now, I am 4th in the 1500 and 400 IM. 6th in the 200 fly. I think that I will just make it in the 800 because I had to use my split from the 1500. It is too bad that I wasn't able to do a stand alone 800 this SCM season.

Somehow you forgot Corbeau.He's super fast too.It is a really tough age group for BR. They're all tough! How about 35-39, with West and Commings leading the (WR setting) charge, followed in the next band by Butcher, Dennison and Rezek who are all smoking fast too. In fact, the full top 10 in the 100 all swam pretty dang impressive times (heck even the top 20).... Don't know what Fort was talking about there not being many people who like to swim BR. It's actually a very deep event across the board, at least on the men's side. Maybe she meant no women like to swim BR....

35th in the 100 free, 31st 50 back, 17th 400 free, 20th 200 free. Being 40-44 is a hassle. I feel certain slippage will occur when last weekend's results come in.

With all due respect, I think the men's 45-49 age group is one of the most fearsome. Guthrie, Blank, Dicks, Weismann, Fristoe, etc. Let's not forget the men's 50-54 age group: Gaines, Groselle, Morales, Bugg, Smith, Specht... I am currently 14th (but not for long) in the 400 free despite swimming a personal best with a time that until last year had always been fast enough for a top ten ranking. It's all good--I'm patient, and the guys ahead of me are all getting older.

Yesterday from a push-off, I clocked in at 1:06 on a 100 free. Considering my time on a 100 free from the blocks three weeks ago was 1:04.59, that got me, well, excited. Just subtract, what is it, three seconds? and that swim could've been 1:03 off the blocks. I was under pressure to relieve everybody at practice of finishing the last set of 3 rounds of 7 100s, had to swim it in under 1:07. I delivered! It may not be much compared to the times of some of the really fast folks here, but I'm proud of it for my own reasons. My first 100 free race, I went 1:19.98, Jan. 31 this year. By April, I got that down to 1:11.something. The season ended for us, and I kind of relaxed the swimming for a bit of a stretch from April to July until I joined a USAS team. So, 1:06, possibly 1:03. Not bad for a guy who just a little over a year ago was 240 pounds and hadn't been active for nearly seven years hence. Shiver me timbers, I could get under a minute before the new year, and say, "I got my 100 free under 60 in my first year." Mmmm, I can just taste it! I think I have a new No. 1 goal. And I wasn't even wearing a cap for either of my recent two times. And I have a lot of hair on my head right now.

You would have fit right in on the right side then ... Easy to settle - the fastest event is the 50 Free -- we can just compare winning times across all age groups for Men and Women and settle it for this year .... Speaking of 50 Free - if you want a good laugh, check out the final heat of the 50 Free -- I am the one left standing at the blocks :badday: -- I did not hear "take your marks" (it was very noisy at the start) - not the race to miss the start .... liveswim.net/.../

My only SCM (NE) meet doesn't seem to be posted yet, bec my name isn't on the lists anywhere and I can tell by eyeballing the lists that I'd be within "snapping distance" of a couple of TT's, I'd be about 15-18 or so. SO really, there's hope for me yet.

Jim, I remember standing in the hot sun on deck at Clovis one day commiserating with myself over my finishes in the brutal 45-49s. In a stroke of what I thought was brilliance, or at least a darn good idea, I thought to see where I would have placed in the 50-54 results, a group I will be a proud member of for meters come January 1. Oops, never mind. Almost across the board I would have finished even further down the ladder. It's a tough world out there.

8th in 100 BR, 6th in 200 BR. 11th in the 50 BR. ERRR.... Time to switch strokes. I might be doomed if there was a big SCM meet recently. Oh well. It's too late now. :frustrated:
