But if you do get hairy palms and don't want to shave them, do you think FINA would let us wear B70 mittens? No Jim,obviously FINA is getting more money from Gillette than they could from B-70 and Jaked.That is the true reason for the ban.

What's this Jim, tech suits make you go blind??? But I only wore mine twice. Do you think I have a chance? Actually, with my prescription, some would say I was blind before my tech suit. Oh how I'll miss knowing when to do a flip turn. :bump:

I guess I am one of the lucky ones - never used anything beyond a pair of Fastskin leggings about 8 years ago at a High School championship meet. Never have felt a real justification to spend $100+ on a swim suit when I can still accomplish so much by training harder, etc. If I felt that I had hit a wall with training, then perhaps I would have been more inclined to buy the suit.

A great idea, swim in a high tech suit then go back to a not so hightech suit you will surely swim faster in your regular suit then you did before. The hightech suit does help your muscle memory and a little of the speed stays with you.

I think Joel made the right call. Now he can truly see the hgh tech suits as the addictive drug that they are. :) Thanks for the backup! I guess my reason for the post was only to express the fact that I had never tried a tech suit and I really was actually shocked the difference it made. Now I know what everyone else is talking about. I do see Jim's point that maybe I was flirting with danger.

Everyone is making it sound like "the ban" has actually happened. Well, I may have stars in my eyes, but the decision to ban tech suits has not happened yet. What if FINA decides they are OK for Masters. What if FINA decides they are not OK, but USMS decides they can be used for yards. I'm just sayin'..........what if............:banana: that's been my mantra for months... they're not banned yet! We're all betting on FINA to make a decision we think makes sense at this point, that's proven to be very not their style. Just in case, I'm looking for a meet the weekend before they meet in January :D

What if FINA decides they are not OK, but USMS decides they can be used for yards. I'm just sayin'..........what if............:banana: I predict this will be the outcome. There's no harm (on any level) in having yards meets without tech suit restrictions. It might even spark some interest in masters swimming by world class swimmers who want to swim super fast just for fun.

congratulations fyi an old fastskin hi-neck kneeskin isn't that great of a suit you'd swim much faster in a new speedo pro or a full blue seventy nero comp Being an average swimmer and not owning a high tech suit I have never cared about what suits others wear. All I wanted to do was swim my own race, although I will admit that winning is fun. However, at a inter-squad meet this past Friday I borrowed a old fastskin hi-neck kneeskin from my coach. WOW!! What a feeling!! Swam five events in one hr. (yes I know, a lot for 1 hr.). Swam "masters" personal best in two events. Swam a lifetime PB in one event. The other two events were very repectable swims for me. I am not bragging, just wanted to find an audience that would understand. Wish I would have bought a suit earlier.

I think access would be an issue- I doubt many manufacturers are still making the tech suits, putting some at a disadvantage if they needed to get a new one. I was a fan of the lzr as i'm too skinny for b70's.

That and people with blind relatives. Not to mention relatives who are dumby's. I suppose the only ones I really didn't have to worry about are the mutes. Mutes are unlikely to call me a dumby for fear of offending the blind. Where is Helen Keller to sort out all this moral dilemma for we who have a 1 percent inclination towards political correctness, and a 99 percent lack of tact?

I didn't want to put it this way out of possibly offending anybody. But I will go ahead anyway. They say it's better to be born blind than to go blind because in the former case, you never realize quite what you're missing. You came so close, Joel, to making it through to Jan. 1 without tasting the heady elixir of sight! Alas, now you will have tasted it and lost it! Joel, I admire your attitude. But seeing as it is so close to the ban, I wonder if you would have been better off staying with the old fashioned suits so that in your future swims you won't be dreaming of what might have been. You are absolutely right Jim. I had packed a pair of my favorite jammers but thought it would be fun to try the fastskin. I guess I will be shopping for some new jammers after the first of the year. I still had fun though.
