I'm not sure if I even have one, (refused treatment, Man I hate Hospitals!!), But sure seem to have the symptoms. Me too. I think some of what was giving me some dizzyness, freaking me out about having a concussion was I caught a cold at almost the exact same time. Giving that kind of dizzy weird feeling (untill the fever broke anyway), and it was really working on me thinking there was something goin' on inside my thick skull! I should've known better! A big load off for sure. One week to get rid of this cold and heel up these raccoon eyes, and its time for my first meet in almost 22 years!

RE: Possible concussion, and swimming?

Glad to hear everything is okay. The LAST thing I would want to do with those symptoms is getting a pool. Its easy enough to get a little woosy and dizzy in the pool and after a swim as it is. Don't screw around....go to the Doc.

RE: Possible concussion, and swimming?

Guess I have to tell the wife she's right! Skip the meet, GO to the DOCTOR. If you are experiencing symptoms that might mean there is swelling of your brain. Pressure on an area can cause permanent damage, which in turn has the potential to cause you lose some skills... did you hit your forehead?.... check out executive functioning and contra-cou concussion. What was that actress' name who experienced a head injury, refused treatement saying she was okay, then died? I do mean to scare you.

I hate hospitals and most MD's too, but there are somethings I wouldn't mess around with and a head injury is one.

GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Slow bleeds take their sweet time.

Slow bleeds in your mellon are hard to identify due to the fact that many of the signs and symptoms aren't terribly severe.

If you had trauma to your head, see a doctor.

My mantra has always been, "If I have sudden head trauma, I hope I crack my skull." Slow internal bleeds can squeeze your brain through the one opening at the base of your skull. If your skull is cracked the pressure from the bleeding might leak.

See a doctor. You wouldn't want to wake up dead.

RE: Possible concussion, and swimming?

The fact that you are coming to a swimming message board for advice on a concussion is all the proof you need that you should go to a doctor ASAP.

RE: Possible concussion, and swimming?

Skip the meet and get to the doctor ASAP! DO NOT mess around with head injuries! Even if you feel fine now, small clots, brain bleeds, and strokes can occur. As much as you hate hospitals, it would probably be worth at least calling your PCP as well. They should be able to give you advice as to when and how hard to push yourself with such an injury.

Hope you feel better soon.
