This is just the latest episode of the swimming world’s soap opera “The Can Of Worms” and I (and many others) already thought of the idea of derating any WR set while using a tech suit: U.S. Masters Swimming Discussion Forums - View Single Post - What Will Be the Longest Standing World Record of Suit Age? As for getting all the worms back in the can (and the final episode of the soap opera), FINA should just TIVO back to the rules in effect in the 70s and 80s before they allowed all this “suit technology” stuff to be legal. :agree: D2

If fina goes through with this bonehead move, then will everyone at the age group and masters level that held records on Jan.1,2008 start demanding to have their records back? This is move will make swimming a laughing stock of sport.

Coming to the international mecca of racing and talking hateful about our beloved nascar. Back on topic - this is completely ridiculous. Ban the suits, get it over with, move on. The problem with this whole argument is that is presupposes the records will remain intact when, in fact, only time will tell on that.

The FINA Coaches are overstepping their authority. Why would they care about the WR's set in certain types of suits, unless they have some type of hidden interest in the matter? Unfortunately, since they can't and won't explain the reasons that they think that this is proper, it will end up in court. It isn't fair to anyone who wore an Arena, Jaked or Blue 70, not just the WR holders. Are they going to disallow Masters Top Ten times too!

I say keep the records as is. You aren't going to remember who wore what suit unless the races were televised. Someone will break them and they aren't going to take a generation to break them. Word! The records have been established legally. Therefore, there is no reason to remove them from the books or set a separate list.
