My brief comeback has consisted of 3 coached practices and one swim on my own.

Some Observations:

1. I wish I had found masters swimming organization

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

Good for you for returning to the pool.

I returned 18 months ago, not knowing what to expect. I could never get into cardio exercise, no matter how interesting I tried to make it. Running, jogging, tread mills, all that just doesn't do it for me, so I struggled to keep at it consistently. I play hockey, but that's once a week, and with little ones at home, it's less.

Swimming, on the other hand, has been great for me. For some reason, I am consistently swimming for an hour 3-5 times per week. I am still trying to figure out why it is more fun to me than running ever has been. Perhaps I think too much.

So welcome! I think you'll enjoy it, and this is a fantastic resource for support.

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

I am still trying to figure out why it is more fun to me than running ever has been. I've been back in the pool for two years after a thirty year break from swimming that was spent surfing, and swimming has been wonderful in every respect.

PS: Fly will get easier, but back stroke will always suck :)

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

The MOOSE is loose !!! You have made some good observations. I took 11 years off and when I got back in the water, I could agree with everything you said. Even now I could agree with the fly part  Hang in there, it will all get easier and more fun.

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

Welcome back Noobie! I agree with all the points you just made.
OW is alot more of an adventure than pool racing. If you like to work with the elements of nature(and as they change on a minute-to-minute basis) you would probably like ow swimming. For a first time I'd start with a short on (1 mile) and do it in a small lake. Get some experience and the sky is the limit!

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

Welcome, you are in good company. I took off 20 years and these forums have been great. My advice - watch YouTube videos, read Ande's swim faster faster and keep at it!

RE: noob - Hi Everyone

welcome you'll be Swimming Faster Faster before you know it
