The advice they give about kick patterns in freestyle are exactly the opposite of what Jon Olsen told me to do at the Race Club. Mr. Smooth does it the way that feels more natural to me, and since I have reverted back in this direction anyway, now I can do so guiltlessly. The kicking patter (6beat) displayed by the Mr.Smooth is timed the way I have been used to teach.

Most important point, during the most powerful (and propulsive) phase of the arm pull, leg same side as the arm pulling is kicking.

And as a bonus, opposite leg is synchronized with arm entry (that is, left arm enters, right leg kicks). So it's no wonder why it feels more natural, this pattern is the one that provides for the best balance I find.

RE: Has anyone seen Mr Smooth

Some interesting facts from Swimsmooth.

Doesn't Manadou have a two-beat kick? Does this mean she makes up for the kick with a faster stroke?

RE: Has anyone seen Mr Smooth

Very cool. What does 58.3"/100m
mean? Aside from the mixed units, inches divided by meters would be a dimensionless number after applying a meters/inch conversion.

???

Thx,

However, he should work on his head position, as it appears to be a bit high. The pitch angle of his hands seem to be a bit acute, but that could be my bias.

He looks back when he takes a breath, a no-no in my book.

Seems like he is always exhaling. Must have big lungs.

Mr. Smooth's kick seems to be a bit out of synch with the force phase of his stroke.

He seems like a fairly good swimmer. If he gave us his times I could give more feedback.

Kudos to Mr. Smooth for not wearing one of those tech suits.

RE: Has anyone seen Mr Smooth

I'm going to order some of those paddles!
