Thanks Stud, I won't actually start recovering until next week.

Jim, I have learned some fast swimmers have had this done to them. Inviting me won't affect your chances at a Top 10 spot, but inviting everyone who has had a vasectomy might spoil your plans.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

Here is the Catch-22 (look it up)

Read the book as a kid, also read some basic anatomy when I was a kid too, I am not worried about that catch-22. :)

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

I had the same experience as Jim T. I got back in the pool earlier then the Dr. recommended and it wasn't pretty. Lot's of swelling and discoloration. It set me back much farther then if I'd followed the Docs orders.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

Here is the Catch-22 (look it up) for this procedure. You are told by others, that you won't ever get it up again, but if you get it up during some time after the surgery, then you will hurt; so you try not to get it up, but at the same time you wish to get it up to see if it still will be able to get up....

Catch-22, a great movie!

As for what "others" have said, none of it is true...not even the hurt part.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

Here is the Catch-22 (look it up) for this procedure. The key to a successful recovery seems to be lots of icing of the surgical area. Rent some movies and make sure you have a few bags of frozen peas for the evening.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

I followed the MD orders after hearing several stories from friends that were similar to what Jim Clemmons has described.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

One thing for sure is that your boys wont be swimming...

Careful, your boys may still be swimming for up to 6 weeks. My neighbor had child #4 b/c he thought his boys weren't active. Oops! She made him sleep on the couch for 6 months after that joyous news.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

One thing for sure is that your boys wont be swimming...

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

I had mine done on a Friday and swam my first practice on Monday night. I passed on the Saturday morning swim meet that weekend (no way that could have been done unless I was in a Jeff Farrell Olympic Trials type of situation). I don't recall any problems from swimming that Monday. There may have been just a little discomfort, but it wasn't enough to stop me from swimming.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

Has anyone gotten back in the water too soon after a vasectomy? I will follow my doctors advice over any advice in this thread. I am trying to figure out if I should be more cautious than my Dr. advises because of his inexperience with competitive swimmers.

Stick with your Dr's. advice. I got in one or two days early (I think it was 2 days post-op) and experienced unanticipated "coloring" changes and swelling in, well, in the general area where the cutting occured. Cost me an additional couple of days and it's not comfortable. The high point was the prep-nurse.

You can take it from there, Jim T.

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

The only things to think abiut are - no block starts for a while - take it easy on *** stroke kick & no sex in the pool after eating ??:bolt:

RE: Returning to swimming after a vasectomy

I think the boys still swim, but they have no where to go.

Q isn't castrated. At least not physically.

Which brings me to my renewed quest (with perhaps some new recruits to join me):

The establishment of a 3rd Gender Category, wherein guys like me and other psychologically castrated male swimmers can compete against manly women (though not as manly as CreamPuff) and have a better chance of making the Top 10, Intermediate Hormonal Division.

Q, are you with me? How about you, Mr. Poopy Pants?

I think this is definitely an idea whose time has come.

Plus we want our own lockerroom.

Maybe, now that I think of it, CreamPuff does qualify after all.
