If you are in the Dc area, you can always swim at the Wilson High Aquatic. I love going down to that pool for a meet. It is a fabulous facility. I It is crawling distance from the Tenleytown metro(across the street).

dpr.dc.gov/.../view,a,1239,q,550518.asp

I know that there is a bus line that runs every 20 minutes up Mass. Ave through AU. But, I remember the cab rides being pretty reasonable. Also, I know that the bus line starts from Farrugat North area to AU. But, I don't think that it will get you to the 5AM workouts.

PM Muppet about using the Wilson pool because I think that he swims there sometimes.

I'll be in DC Monday thru Thursday and am looking to get some workouts in while there. I'll be staying at the Renaissance on Connecticut, about 3 or 4 blocks from the White House (I believe it's about that far). Anyway, I saw workouts at 5:00am and 7:30pm, figure I'll taxi it but am wondering how hard it is to locate the pool on the campus.

Thanks for any help you can share.
Jim, my wife works at AU. The pool is in the Butler Pavilion/Eagles's Nest in the middle of campus- it's the large building you drive through. You can just ask the cabbie to take you to AU's Eagle's Nest. But yeah, not at all likely that the facility will be open on Monday.

RE: Washington Post Website about DC Area swimming

I saw Curl Burke has workouts at American University. Jim, all I can say, is good luck getting around even on Monday. We have a tad bit of snow here. I'm around 20 inches and still have a good 12 ours of snow fall left. And another storm is supposed to hit on Tues.

Ask the Wookie. Very few people are aware that Buster Crabbe was a master's swimmer and swam at some early USMS meets in Arizona that were held at Dan & Edie Gruender's home (3-lane, I believe) pool. I saw a news clipping or two about this among the memorabilia that the Gruender's used to bring to meets in Arizona.

RE: Washington Post Website about DC Area swimming

Traditional depends on when you set the clock, Jim. I think that it is more a better team than pool. That pool is not the University of Tennessee or Auburn or Texas. It must be nice to be able to pack up and go to the best team around. But, I really don't get why people would commute from Bethesda to Baltimore for practice. Curl Burke is an excellent program.
