I got to the pool after some one and half hour train ride, changed into my swimsuit, started my laps. No sooner than I had swum for maybe 2 laps, the pool staff told me the pool had to be closed and I must get out immediately. I asked why, since it&#39;s supposed to close at 8pm, and it&#39;s not even 5pm yet. The answer: the lifeguard on duty had not shown up. Of course, without a lifeguard you can&#39;t swim.

So that&#39;s my afternoon, 3 hours round train trip to swim for 2 laps :bitching:

I&#39;ve met two other abrupt closing at the same pool (I must have had a very bad luck), but those two were excusable: once there was no water in the building (except for the uncirculated water in the pool), no toilet or shower available. The other time, there was a fire alarm. (How ironic, these two reasons.)

But lifeguard not showing up? and we must get out immediately? (I swam two laps, and I saw a couple of swimmers just got wet and hadn&#39;t started the first lap yet.)

Anyone had similar bad experience? I&#39;m still pondering what was the reason the guard didn&#39;t show up. The pool remains closed for the rest of the day.

What a horrible event, especially after traveling so long to get there. What would happen if you just kept swimming? There were &quot;pool staff&quot; but they aren&#39;t trained to rescue people from the water, so just keep going.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Terrible day

nhc, I can definitely relate. You have my sympathy! Having a workout stopped in its tracks like that is my idea of total day-ruining frustration. It&#39;s one thing to have to stop a workout before you are done, but it&#39;s just the WORST to have to stop when you are just getting started. You haveall that energy and no place for it to go.

I&#39;ve had similar things happen to me a few times. The pool where I used to swim is a 20 to 30 minute drive from my house, and is in the opposite direction from every other place I need to go. They have a very limited lap swim schedule, and it was a huge struggle for me just to GET there during the time they are open (I have 5 kids, 3 are school-age and all have different drop-off/pick up times and 2 schools). One time I had just swam my first lap when they cleared the pool and closed it because someone threw up over in the shallow area. I was so frustrated. Normally I&#39;d feel sorry for someone who vomited, but all I could think about was my workout.

I&#39;ve also had to stop a workout in mid warm-up due to a mean noodle class instructor even though she is supposed to leave a lane open for laps.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Terrible day

That is not good but I would have enjoyed the pool being shut down many a time.. How far was the high school from you then? Hope it didn&#39;t take you 1-2 hours to get there and found it closed. It feels especially terrible when they virtulaly pull you out of the water when you just started. I could have spent this afternoon doing something more pleasant and productive, today being a gorgeous warm sunny day  Lump, one of the managers was the one who ordered us to get out of the water, and said it was an &quot;emergency&quot;, that we had no reason to complain against the facility because it&#39;s that particular guard&#39;s problem.

the pool is less than a mile from me so it wasn&#39;t as awful as your experience.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Terrible day

tjrpatt, that was bad, too. I wanted to get some swim in since I had a meet the next day. Well, I knew that there was lap swimming time at the high school that my Y operates. No lap swimming on Saturday afternoon at the Y. Well, I went to the high school and the pool was closed. So, I emailed the Aquatic Director on Monday and he said that he was unaware that they closed early. So, I am sure that the lifeguard on duty got in trouble for that. Even though I didn&#39;t get a swim that Saturday, I was fine for the meet the next day. I have been the lifeguard that left early but not 2 hours like these kids did. Maybe like 20 minutes a few times. Plus, they should have lucky to have a lifeguard job at this Y.<div style="clear:both;"></div>
