Yes, they configure two 25m lanes in the wave pool throughout the competition, at least that's what happened when they hosted BC Champs longcourse. I myself would prefer a scm format, regretting the loss of 100IM.

Curious about the Nanaimo facility: during LCM competition, is the wave pool used for warmup/warmdown? I agree this meet is tempting. For me it's about a three hour drive plus the ferry ride.

Nanaimo looks like a nice facility. I wonder if competitors will be allowed to use the water slides? :banana: For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nanaimo, it is located on Vancouver Island across the Strait of Georgia west of the city of Vancouver (Vancouver city is on the mainland, not the island). It would be pretty easy to fly into Vancouver and then take a ferry over to Nanaimo.

Jim, I'm not going to convention. And I am not taking the kids to Nationals in Georgia. Waaaay too expensive. Airfare alone would be over $2000. I do appreciate the suggestions of what to do, and where to take kids :) I'm hoping the hubby will train again and it will be a little getaway for us! How romantic- USMS Nationals as a getaway!!! I can shave his back, he can shave mine, awwww. NOT! Cokeland sounds neat. And him being a police officer... (ha ha)

Best way to get to Turner Field is via MARTA to 5 Points Station and then take the Braves Shuttle to the Stadium. No hassle with traffic or parking and you get serenaded by a barbershop quartet on the bus!

I think the BC meet has a skeleton site up www.cmsc2010.ca where there is a link to the pool. No kidding, this meet will be a very acceptable alternative to those not going to Georgia. This would not include the notorious Smith brothers who are known to be unable to handle our stronger Canadian beer. I think I'm sold. As I'm hoping to focus LCM in 2010 and my wife's a Canuck, this should be an easy sell. It's on my aspirational meet calendar along with the 2009 Pan Am SCM meet in Veracruz.

The aquarium is awesome, world of coke is kind of overrated, in my opinion. Turner Field is also sweet. I'd cab that, parking is rough down there near the field. Turner Field is well worth the trip. It's such a unique looking stadium. If you take Marta there, you will have to get off the train and either walk many, many blocks or transfer to a bus. a cab might be the better option.

A "way down the list life goal" is to visit every major league ballpark: how far away is the Braves' stadium? It is downtown too but further south, you will need to either take MARTA or drive. You might want to take the kids to the new Aquarium and the World of Coke while you are in town. Plenty to do and see in Atlanta.

Also Kirk, Air Canada flies into our airport, so any US airline that code shares with them and flies to Vancouver would be able to connect easily. As well, Victoria (70 miles to south) has Air Canada, Horizon (Alaska Airlines sister) and United flying into it.

It's now fully enclosed. Swam there in December for a USAS meet. It's a 10-lane, 50 meter pool with a movable bulkhead, plus a separate 10-lane, 25 yard diving well. I believe there is a third rec pool on site, as well. I thought that was an outdoor/covered pool. Did they do more work after the olympics? Is there a warm-up pool on the site?

Turner Field, GA Dome, Phillips Arena, Centennial Park, CNN Center, Varsity, Atlantic Station, Ga Tech, Fox Theatre, Tabernacle, Underground.....its all right there within a 5 mile radius.

Actually, Tech is on the "worse" side of 75, across 75 is Midtown, which is actually quite nice and where most will probably stay. I don't see any need to drive after you get to your hotel, as you can take cabs or Marta everywhere from there. I will admit Marta can be a bit sketchy downtown but if you are going north to the Buckhead or Perimeter area, you'd be an absolute fool to drive when you can get there on Marta in 1/10th the time and not have to park in that mess. Atlanta is a huge city, with all big cities have, good and bad. I think it's wrong to paint Marta as dangerous. I've taken it a zillion times and have never felt the least bit threatened, nor would my wife take it if it were dangerous. Guess it's difference of opinion, as I think the tech side is ok, while the area right over 75 is worse but that's my view point. But we are talking about downtown not buckhead/perimeter. Downtown is awful. The fancy hotels are nice and safe but that's about all I find ok in that part of atlanta(with the exception of the varsity)

I will dispute this statement. Taking Marta is the way to go with the meet at Ga Tech. Driving in that area is rough and Marta takes you right from the aiport to every location. My wife takes Marta from the airport weekly to the suburbs. There is nothing wrong with Marta. If you drive into ATL, park at the hotel and cab or walk from there. Avoiding Atlanta traffic is an art, the less you drive the better. Dispute it all you want...but having taken too many trips on marta, I will take my chances driving in atlanta. And the GT campus is fairly calm area. Across i-75, that's a different story.

U might be needin more drugs if you wear the union jack suit down here. In the pool area, you would be ok...not sure out of it... Dude..that's the South right? We backed your side in the Civil War...besides only the guys would have an issue and y'all distracted easily if I mention cousin Jim-Bob's still is unguarded... ;)

YOu will not even need to rent a car. Take MARTA Its Smarta . You only take marta if you place no value on your life. it is worse than the Chicago,NYC, and DC metros all put together.

Canadian Champs (and the chance for world records, FINA top ten etc. are the very same weekend... in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Thanks for mentioning this, Peter. I'm probably not going to Atlanta since I'd like to swim at Worlds in Sweden and don't think I could swing both trips, but Nanaimo could be a very good, easily driveable option for me.

Real close - I remember we passed by it at convention going from the hotel to the pool and back. Maybe this year and you can catch two parks at once or have you been to them? Will you be attending?

lol, I'm just used to some girl's blunt acerbic ways, and have a certain appreciation for them. Thus ends the object lesson in why I left California and moved east. On the MARTA front, I live in Brooklyn and survived Philly's subway, so I figure that should be fine.
