In a month that has seen some federations in Europe and the US make some statements and rulings for young age groupers, as well as NCAA swimmers.

Swimming Australia has come out with the most sweeping statement for change.

No zipperback suits? There are plenty of training suits, both lycra and polyester, that have zippered backs and don't offer any performance advantage, other than not getting sunburned so much when swimming outdoors. I'm not sure they've thought this through enough.

RE: Swimming Austalia makes a ruling on tech-suits for AG's

Interesting decision but a day late and a dollar short.

There is no going back unfortunately.

what's the issue with going below the knees? This from the country of Ian Thorpe and the full-on body suit?

RE: Swimming Austalia makes a ruling on tech-suits for AG's

I like this one:

General: Swimwear must not have a zipper or any type of fastening system.

RE: Swimming Austalia makes a ruling on tech-suits for AG's

Wow, this seems to be VERY draconian. To do away with leggings and zip up suits? Thos have been around for HOW long? I can understand the need to limit the newest lineup of tech suits but everything? Plus 18 as the cut off age? That seems a tad bit high to me. And this seems to cover ALL meets involving age group swimmers 18 and under.

Good luck with this one.

RE: Swimming Austalia makes a ruling on tech-suits for AG's

Patrick W.
