Yes, her 100 free LCM and SCY was very good last year, but it doesn't look like she turned in a time in the 500 or 400m free that was even close to top 16 in her age group. I presume she didn't swim the event that often. Usually it takes a lot of background and middle distance/distance training to swim the 500 and 400m free. To jump from the 100/200 to the 500 in one year with such impressive speed is interesting. This girl was fast last year with a 1:48 200 free..... top 5 in her age group..... 6 more second drop from there ...... that's impressive. John Smith

She dropped approximately 18+ seconds in one year in the 500 free? 6 + seconds in the 200 free? I'd like to know what she did differently in training? Those drops seem quite aggressive. Minot High School Records.... www.minot.k12.nd.us/.../default.php

Plus, she is a teenager. They seem to be able to drop time out of nowhere, as their bodies develop. Yep, I had similair drops during those years. Memories.......!

It would be interesting to see her times from this time last year. The times you quote puts her as one of the greatest US female swimmers of all time. How could such talent have failed to make the top 16 last Summer? Simple Geek...lot's of really good short course swimmers don't make the jump to long course. Since she finaled at trials in the 200 IM, then she maybe getting ready to have some breakthroughs in other events. Plus, she is a teenager. They seem to be able to drop time out of nowhere, as their bodies develop.

I looked up her long course times from this summer and she dipped under 2:00 in the 200 free twice, but didn't even swim the 400 free. In last year's SCY NAG rankings she was first for both the 100 free and 200 IM, so she didn't really come out of nowhere. Still, pretty amazing drops.

But you have to remember she's 16. This could be a combination of improved training, better body awareness, late growth, etc....

Plus she swam the 100/200 Free, 100 back and 200 IM at Trials. Look out world here comes Dagny!!!!!!

She made the final of the 200 IM at Trials. We've reported on www.swiminfo.com every fast swim Dagny Knutson has done since then. She's been hinting at something like this, but not exactly this fast.
