Yes, the &quot;eighth wonder of the world&quot; - but not a good wonder.

BTW, what&#39;s the over/under among your MD buddies on when I&#39;m going to drop dead? I might want to get a piece of that action.

I see both my regular MD and my urologist (who did the V-snip on me) at the pool fairly regularly. No biggy. Yes, the DARE program is good.

Apparently, when MD&#39;s get together at conferences, they tell patient stories. My urologist LOVES to tell other doc&#39;s about how I discovered that I had prostate problems (in the middle of the Hudson River while doing the MIMS race). He says that no one can top that story - some kind of weird MD bragging rights, I guess.

I&#39;ve been swimming with the same group for about 10 years, and around 5-6 years ago started a new job. One of the guys swimming looked a little familiar, but it took me a week or so (he didn&#39;t swim every day) to place him, he was one of this new company senior VP&#39;s. One day after workout, I had just showered and was getting dressed, he came up and introduced himself (of course I knew who he was), and I introduced myself. It got a little awkward after that in the office, he knew me (the new kid on the block) while he didn&#39;t know many of my co-workers (some had been there a few years). One day I was sitting at my desk, he walked by, and stopped to comment on the workout that morning. Next thing, my boss&#39;s boss (who reported to this VP) ran over to see what his boss wanted. After I explained that we swam in the same group I think he felt a little better (but both my old boss and this boss have since left too).

I didn&#39;t really think anything of what I wore....the VP was one of the few (only?) guys in our group who always wore jammers. I wear my usual speedo-type suit with a drag suit over it. Since the company is close to where I swim, we had a few employees who swam with the group, it was quite common to see co-workers. But I left there about 3 years ago, for a different company.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Seeing people out of context at meets

Hmm. Perhaps this thread should be retitled responding out of context to threads.... I mean I&#39;m really interested in your should swim at Lake Tahoe and all, but what would happen if __________ was there and you really didn&#39;t want to see ___________ due to various reasons. Would you drown _________? Tell _________ water is unusually warm, no wetsuit needed, only wimps were wearing wetsuits? What if you were side by side with ________? Etcetera.

I have been amused by the high school response, the boss response, the co-workers response, the vasectomy responses, the wow! You look so different in clothes, response. I may have to wear a disguise. I think those fake nose/glasses things will do the trick. My friend who did this twice said it can vary significantly year to year and god help us if there&#39;s cloud cover apparently.

You people are all certifiable. I will hand out hot cocoa.

I often have wondered whether it would be easier being married to a fellow masters swimmer. I&#39;m trying to urge Mr. Fort to compete more so that I hopefully get less of the eye rolling when I mention swim meets. I remember feeling slightly awkward in college when the girls gymnastics team came to watch a meet, because the school wanted teams to support each other.

we had been to one of their competitions a few days earlier, and they should up, not sure about the others, but I felt slightly uneasy having them watch us (me) in my size 28 (nut huger) speedo. it made it harder to hit on them later on.

same thing when the girls volley ball took time out from their practice to cheer us on. no risk of hitting on them, I was 3 inches shorter then most of them.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Seeing people out of context at meets

How far would each leg be and HOW cold is the water? Mid-60s in the summer pretty much squares with my recollection. Even in the summer, morning temperatures can easily be in the 40s or colder (feels MUCH colder in the shade than in sunlight, as is typical for CA/NV).
