Phelps has done the 200 yard *** in 1:57. He did a 1:10 split in his 400 IM. His technique is very good. And those size 17 feet are perfect for the breaststroke kick. So I welcome him into the breaststroke world:drink:

Stud I just did not like his hands on approach. As I said look but don't touch. Are you talking about his hands on the approach to the finish of the 100fly? I thought he had the magic touch..........

It's official, the Venetian pool is olympic size www.bestofvegas.com/.../ re: "Million dollars for a sub minute event?" Hehe, that is what we specialized in Vegas! UFC fights, Mike Tyson fights, the high roller tables and slots. The key is to have an hour or two of non-headliner competitions prior. That way people can't say "Hey, I was robbed!" The comeback has always been, "No, your ticket also covered the 1-2 hours of events prior. :) I think the world would love to see a rematch!

Is this pool fit for competition? Phelps vs Cavic in a $1,000,000 rematch at the Venetian, anybody? Wow, that would be great! People staying in the north side of the Venetian tower and the south side of the Palazzo tower could watch from their air conditioned rooms. The celebs and other money people could step out from TAO Beach and watch. Then there is plenty of room on the pool deck for bleachers. But don't quote me on the 50m. It just seems like it may have been that big. I've never had exact figures.

No one commented on the quote "Let loose in Ann Arbor is like pig mud wrestling", but hey I caused me to bust a gut. Living in Lost Wages now, it is not all sin, there are more churches per capita than any other large city. And lets face it, even the dance girls, strippers etc all know Phelps has money and those HUGE hands and feet:hijack:

You can zoom in pretty tight in the satellite view in Google Maps and the large pool at the Venetian definitely isn't 50 meters. I'd say it's closer to 33 meters. Certainly not over 40.

I swam in the outdoor pool at Bellagio this past Spring. No idea how long it actually was but it was at least 50 meters.

I just used the scale in the lower corner of the google maps image. The pool measures out to about 35m. It looks like the Vegas ad needs a math refresher course. :) But hey, who says P and Cavic can't do a race via multiples of 35 :)

I have noticed that a number of high end Resorts/hotels in Vegas and other places like to call their "large" pools "olympic sized" If they just mean to say larger than your average hole-in-the-ground hotel pool, than I could see this as a semi-accurate statement (at best). I have never been to a hotel or resort that had any type of official lap pool - most are too shallow and overcrowded to get a swim in.

My only issue with Oprah is what was with the Cullen Jones profile. Where was the Garrett Weber-Gale profile, Miss Favoritism!!!! Grated, Jones was a part of the one of the great relay swims of all time but way too much attention on him. Tom, there haven't been that many successful African American swimmers yet. That makes Cullen Jones a story even if there are lots of swimmers with greater accolades.

PS: Does anyone else love it when George chimes in with his posts about how he did the same thing 40 years ago. Is there a good place to swim in Maui, I am buying a house there? George: "I swam against the entire Bangladesh Swim Federation in an all or nothing $2,500 100M freestyle in 1963 at the Ka'anapoli Rec Center..." Goerge, I really do like it when you post that stuff. Since we are talking about Vegas, I have decided that the security there must be incredible. To the al-Queda followers, Las Vegas must be the Sodom and Gomorrah of the United States. So why hasn't anything happened there? I'm convinced it is because of the security. Perhaps people are being watched more than they realize!! Anybody else have any ideas? Sorry, geek. I guess I still haven't tied all this back into swimming. I am curious, however, about good places to swim out there. I have a weakness for blackjack. The only major terrorist concern in Las Vegas is at the Venetian Hotel Resort and Casino. I used to work for TAO there. The reason for the concern is that the owner of the Sands Corporation, which owns the Venetian, is Sheldon Adelson. Sheldon also happens to be one of the top 10 wealthiest people in the world and is Jewish. His wife is also from Israel. However, whenever there are exceptionally high numbers of tourists in Vegas for an event, Bellagio and others step up their security. At the Venetian, on any given day, you cannot enter the resort without stopping at a security checkpoint and there are bomb-sniffing dogs walked all over the property day and night. Oh, and Sheldon has the same Israeli bodyguard by his side day and night. Which all ties into swimming and Phelps because.....Phelps has gold medals and Adelson has gold leaf throughout the hotel of which has a 50m outdoor pool :) Oops, I forgot, Sheldon also finished the Palazzo Hotel Resort and Casino before I left Vegas in March. It is connected to the Venetian. It's supposed to have great rooftop pools too!

Seriously, what's the big deal? All my guy friends have been to strip clubs, and that Michael Phelps is probably rich enough to own a dozen strip clubs. He has done more than all of us combined for the sport of swimming. Does he need to live the life of a saint for the rest of his life just so that the public can continue to believe what they wish to believe, that he is that innocent boy who does nothing except swimming, swimming, and swimming? Give the guy a break. He is 23 years old and 14-time Olympic champion. He deserves to enjoy his life now and he probably can get any girl he wants. Maybe that girl in the picture asked him to put his hand on her, maybe she didn't. Who cares? It has nothing to do with the rest of us. Why do people feel like they have a right to decide or judge how he should spend his time?

For a change? From what I've heard and witnessed...he was quite the let loose boy up there in Michigan as well. Although, all the girls in my graduate program here in Baltimore are anxiously awaiting his homecoming haha. Let loose in Ann Arbor is like pig mud wrestling.:lmao:

It was great to watch the Oprah Show today she has the whole Olympic team on her TV show today. She is on right now.
