I always do it. I also only use one ear plug (in my right ear). Someone saw me doing it and asked me if I weren't in danger of damaging my eardrum. But I don't think there is anything to worry about, particulaly if your swim cap is pulled over your ears. No way could that amount of pressure push an earplug far enough into your eardrum to cause damage. As an added precaution make sure you don't insert the earplug too deeply into your ear.

RE: Ear Plug and Diving (from the block) safe ?

Great. I expect you would only have ear problems, as in equalizing, deeper than 7 to 9 feet depth. I use ear plugs all the time (except when snorkeling or scuba diving) and have no problems.

RE: Ear Plug and Diving (from the block) safe ?

The instructions "not to use for diving" are probably refering to skin or SCUBA diving. Ear plugs make it impossible to equalize pressure in the ears, so wearing them while SCUBA diving is not advised. But, I think that a shallow dive from the blocks would be OK.
