Clarification: I am going to LCM Nats. This is just a question mainly concerned with should I swim a local meet first.

RE: Choosing Meets

I would definitely swim the nationals if I had to pick one. If I could do both meets, however, I would. The more meets the better- that way you could gain more experience. Also, any swim meet is great fun :)

Good luck in nationals, and in whatever meets you decide to do!

RE: Choosing Meets

Don't get bummed!!! You always swim very well at your taper meets. I think Hulk will do well at Nats either way. He's improving every meet basically, and his starts and turns are already good. If anything, Hulkster needs to get to the pool more regularly and then really watch out!

Thanks Leslie! I'm hoping it's just a temporary lack of confidence and serious case of trying to do too much. Best case scenario, I get some rest & regain some zip in the pool.

Paul gets too pumped up about the whole meet to do poorly. I know I'll miss him being there for the 1500. He's the best on deck support system out there!

I land at Portland at 12:45pm, so depending on timeline, there is a really good chance I'll be able to make to the pool by about 1:30. Heck, I might just go directly to the pool from the airport. I'm not doing checked baggage so hopefully that will happen. Tom,

This would be my fisrt LCM meet in 21 years. I broke the ice for my first meet in 20 years back in Oct and I went to SCY Nats in Austin in April.

I'm like a rat on crack when I get back into a sport. I personally find it very difficult to "get up" for low key meets. I don't swim as fast yet it takes me a couple of days to recover from it. This impacts my training for the big meet and thus, for me, low key meets are just a waste of time. Also, because my times aren't great, I get down and lose my drive.

If this is the way you are, wait for LC Nationals. If you need to get a time, just get somebody to time you in one event during practice.

RE: Choosing Meets

Gee, which one do you think I voted for?

RE: Choosing Meets

Paul,

I think it is less about pristine memories and more about getting as much practice (race practice and LCM race practice at that - as you know it is a whole different beast from SCM ).

Unless of course, you feel that your health may be in danger if you swim in that over-warm, not-so-clean, local facility.

Or is it an 'either/or' choice?
