For me, it was 5700 yards.
I&#39;m sure a lot of you have some pretty impressive totals:)

RE: Longest you ever swam

Back in the day: 11,000 yards in the morning, then 9,000 more in the afternoon for 20,000. It was late April, 1972 with the Lakewood Aquatic Club in Southern California training for the &#39;72 Trials. Coach was Jim Montrella. The workout was 120, 100&#39;s (meters) leaving every 1:20. I made interval until the 88th 100 and then swam straight through. Steve Genter made it until the 105th 100 when he missed interval and then swam through. At the end, the sky and everything was orange in color, and was very disoriented. Took about 15 minutes to regain my bearings.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Longest you ever swam

The Mt. Hood Masters in Gresham Oregon (home of this year&#39;s LCM nationals!) had a Christmas season tradition of 100x100&#39;s in the indoor 25 yd pool. The lanes would set their own sendoffs so everyone could participate in however much of the set they wanted. I would do mine in sets of ten x 100 on a comfortable send off so I could switch strokes, then take a break, get a drink, take a potty break if needed. Then we would all go to one of the swimmer&#39;s house for a big brunch. It was a lot of fun, even the swimming! Usually the first 50 I would do all freestyle just to get them under my belt, then maybe 100 IM, backstroke, kick with fins, mix it up.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Longest you ever swam

Good luck Kristina, you&#39;ll do great.

As for me I just got back from a 3 hour 8200 meter workout and my arms are tired and sore. The main set was 60x100 @1:30 with paddles. Now I am just going to sit on the couch and pretend I have arms with which to pick up my drink.

I suppose gin would have been helpful, but it was just &quot;Jansenade&quot; - 3 parts Accelerade Orange with 1 part Gu Triberry. It actually wasn&#39;t all that bad - once I get beyond 2 hours, I pretty much go into a Zen trance-like state, which I rather enjoy. There was also alot of stuff going on at the pool that day: swim lessons, other swimmers and then lifeguard training, so there was always something to look at.

That practice also had a set of 60x50@:45 odds free/evens fly. I did about 20 of them mostly free with fins about 5 of them I managed the fly on then I figured time to warm down this old body. It is tough with just water on deck to drink and in my case no time to drink it. I need to find something I like that is not overly sweet.

Kristina, which drink do you use?

Today is not too bad today. Next week I anticipate a tough Monday AM and PM practice and the rest of the week should be more sprint work since we have a meet at the end of the week.

I will have to do double duty as coach and swimmer at that meet since our coach will have to leave early to take his son to Omaha for trials.

After that I will be working hard straight thru July and backing off end of July beginning of August for Nationals again! I CAN&#39;T WAIT!

You will rip up Nats I know! Yes, we&#39;ve got some of the coaches leaving for trials as well. How exciting and I can&#39;t wait to watch on TV. (I&#39;m actually watching the gymnastics trials right now.) Coach and swimmer?! That&#39;s a lot to take on. I know you will look forward to your taper!

I like the Hammer products and use Heed for the energy drink and Recoverite for the recovery drink. They aren&#39;t too sweet for me and I&#39;m pretty picky. They have a website. And no, I don&#39;t sell them. I&#39;ve had good experiences with that combo.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Longest you ever swam

Good luck Kristina, you&#39;ll do great.

Really amazing there Donna! Actually, sounds good to me! Although I prefer no paddles now. I get a better feel for the water via swimming only or buoy only. But I still love the speed that paddles generate. Still swimming with the kiddies, right? I&#39;ve just started taking a recovery drink after workouts (never did that in the past) and they really work! I&#39;m back to feeling great after tough workouts. It&#39;s pretty incredible. Not sure if you already do that, but I find it to be worth the investment. I also switched from Gatorade to an energy drink with no sugar. Keeps me constant throughout the workout and prevents crashing.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Longest you ever swam

That race was always the first race of the year. At the high point, we were going 21-22KM in two 2 1/2 hour practices. It was murder. A typical kick set was 5 x 200 (no fins) and a typical swim set was 10 x 400. I really don&#39;t remember doing anything but eating, swimming and sleeping.

Prior to the 1980 Olympics disaster, my brother swam at Santa Clara and reported training similar distances. He swam so much, his normally black hair turned this weird blonde-green color. He swam the 400 IM in 4:34+ in the consolation heat, which was a top ten time. I never came close to his feats.

Now, as a masters swimmer, I average about 2.5 - 3KM a day during base period and 1-2KM during taper (very dependent upon how I feel - as I train myself). Each December for the past 9 years, I return to Belmont Plaza pool for the Holiday Invite. It is a great meet and on occasion, my brother and I have raced each other in the 100 IM (it&#39;s still no contest).

See you in the water,
