The Best Western Pony Soldier in Gresham still has rooms with the USMS block rate ($95 queen, $105 double queen). 2.2 miles from the pool, but not on the shuttle route. I'm staying there.

I was going to attend Nats purely for the Volckening Function and tour of the Olympic Suite...I am not going to fly to Oregon just to swim 3 events!! Ha! But really, think about flying to Oregon for the great wine and microbrews :wine: :drink:, the unequaled outdoor recreation (cycling, hiking, skiiing in August, surfing on the Oregon coast), and to find out why Frommer's Travel Guides named Portland one of the WORLD’S top-10 travel destinations in 2007 (Frommers.com). I would ordinarily be staying at home, and was hoping to have a party there, but my house will be in the throes of a huge remodel and I'll be renting a place up the road. To everyone I was hoping to invite over for dinner, sorry, the kitchen won't be done in time. We'll be doing cabinet installation, countertop templates and installation, base and casing, and backsplash tile the week of Nationals. And my mom will be in town! :) Darn it. I'll probably go for the holiday inn that is on the shuttle route. It seems to have rooms still, it is just $30/day or so more expensive than the others, or am I missing something? What's the parking situation like there? I'm assuming the shuttle would be preferable.

Bill....Hulk, Fort, myself and a few others would be happy to come over and assist with the demo...we work for beer! :drink: Demo starts on July 7, but I won't even be here. I'll be on an airplane headed home from a family gathering in Maine, following a trip to Richmond for annual planning. It'll be a little surreal to step off a plane and return home to see half my house demolished on the inside! I only hope they save the hearth for the following day so I can take a sledgehammer to it! I hear that's an excellent dryland workout...

Parking is okay but if you can do the shuttle, it will be worth it. The parking lot is odd so some will have to walk quite a distance.

And rush hour in Portland is from 6-9am and 3-7 pm so it lasts a loooonnng time and can be bad at times. Especially I-5 crossing over the river. Sadly, during 2 of the 4 days of the meet, I will be hitting that traffic since they are weekdays. But it will all be worth it to swim at "home" and see my friends.

Um... Hillsboro. I'm staying with a friend so I'll be about 90 min away. I will be dividing my time between my friends on the western side and swimming on the eastern side. I will be going to the Friday social, though. Any one else? I haven't had a McMenamin's beer in over 2 years. I'm due now! Hillsboro isn't more than 45 mins from the pool. I should know, I live just west of H'boro and I get to the pool in under an hour... maps.google.com/maps

I was hoping to get a room at McMenamin's. Nope, all sold out. Same story at the Best Western Cascade. I guess I should book a room somewhere soon, but since I'll be driving down I'm not terribly concerned yet. The social events look like fun. I need to concentrate on not drinking too many microbrews, though :)

I drove it for 5 years and we always gave ourselves 60-90 min for traffic. Traffic (at least rush our traffic) is Portland's dirty little secret. (This is especially true between Hillsboro and downtown Portland.) I've gotten stuck in absolutely brutal traffic just about every time I go to that town for business... Otherwise it's an absolutely lovely city. I'd love to come to Nats this year (it would be my first ever), but I just won't be able to make it work. :(

I just booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Troutdale. I called several hotels and they were all booked up. I'd suggest anyone else who needs a room better get on the stick! I'm sure there are plenty of rooms in the portland area, but everything fairly close to the pool is getting snatched up.
