Swim times vary depending on age, sex, ability, and pool length.  A 1500 swum in a 25-meter-long pool is going to be faster than a 1500 swum in a 50-meter pool.

I just did a couple of quick searches; here are the results:

1500 Free, 2007, Men, ages 18-104 inclusive, 50-meter pool:
Fastest swimmer:   17:07.98
Slowest swimmer:  49:17.01

1500 Free, 2007, Men, ages 18-104 inclusive, 25-meter pool:
Fastest swimmer:  16:42.31

Based on your term - &amp;quot;average&amp;quot; - I&amp;#39;d go with the 20 to 30 minute range. This should encompass 85% of the roughly 40 year olds.&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
