German swimmers fear a disastrous performance at the Beijing Olympics because they will be wearing the wrong swimsuits.

I mean, if we were scared of improvements, we should all be competing in the old wool swim suits: or maybe even mammoth skin loin cloths if we want to go really far back in the technological line.

I do not see bicyclists racing the same bicycles from fifty years ago, nor the runner in the old shoes; and, the same should go for the swimmer which means that swim suits will improve to lessen drag to near zero coefficients.

Technology marches on.

RE: Could Speedo Cause Olympic Disaster?

Just buy one! OK, go back to basics and insist on no training as a pre-requisite for taking part in competitions.

RE: Could Speedo Cause Olympic Disaster?

Just buy one! World records became a joke, slower swimmers won races (I especially hated watching Hackett's amazing records being shattered by swimmers whose coach said were slower than him).

I prefer swimming with textile. I want the winner to be the faster swimmer, not the one with the fastest technology or the one who takes more pills.
For me, swimming is a sport in which you are being rewarded for hard working, training and pushing your limits, not for having a deeper pocket or a better sponsor.

RE: Could Speedo Cause Olympic Disaster?

Patrick W. I would certainly be willing to bet that if the Americans were to show up without LZRs it would drop their medal count. The one identified swimmer in the article was Thomas Rupprath who held the world record before it was broken by a LZR-wearing Brit.
