I came second to him in the 100 and promised to be closer in the 50. I managed to borrow an LZR and came second again with a time 0.05 short of the old 50 record. If I had got the crutch up a bit higher I may have even broken the WR as well. Anyway Tim beat me by 1.01 secs and it was my best swim by 0.49 under my last electronic timed swim. I guess I need to increase my training from 2 hrs a week to 3 or 4 and try some of Tim&#39;s health food supplements.

I did however swim PB&#39;s of almost 4 seconds in the 200 IM and 200 *** swimming in my TYR suit, so the event brought out the best in me.

Since starting training only last year, I have swum my 100 5 seconds faster than when I was 18 and taken almost 3 seconds off my 50 in the last year.

Robert, sorry we didn&#39;t see you in Perth this year. It was my first Worlds and I enjoyed the whole event.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2008 12th World Masters Championships

Tim was wearing the LZR. Suzanne Heim-Bowen won the 400 freestyle at 4:42.37, breaking Laura Val&#39;s World record by five seconds. Suzanne won four gold medals and one bronze and the open water is tomorrow.

Laura Val, I am fairly sure won five old medals. The 400 has not been posted yet but she swam a 4:50.56 breaking her own 400 record.

Bobbi Callison of Rinconada Masters won four golds and a silver. In the silver, Jane Asher beat her, but had to set a world record to do it.

Ken Frost won a bunch of hardware. He took all the breaststroke medals, a couple of relay golds and a couple of other top ten finishes.

It has been fun meet so far - Open water tomorrow.

I am not suggesting anything except its hard to believe a guy at 56 suddenly swims that much faster then when he was in his forties. Broke the 200 IM record by four seconds almost 2 seconds faster then the 50 to 54 guys. He is scehduled to swim in Austin and should go minute flat in the 100 *** hell he broke the 50 *** record going to his 100 in Perth. He is a great swimmer but the time drops are astounding. His own old world record in the 100 meters (set last year) was 1 14.67.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2008 12th World Masters Championships

I have known and swam against Tim Shead for 16 years and that 100 *** time is just amazing based on his prior swims. He is a fantastic swimmer, don&#39;t get me wrong, but the leap from 1.14.67 to 1.11.1 at 56 is just over the top (faster then he has ever swam in masters). I hold the 200 meter wrold record at 2.46 (never thought it was a great swim but still its the record) I would expect Tim to go under 2.40 after the 100 time. If he was wearing the LZR suit and its makes that much difference then there is going to be a stampede to buy them. He sure deserves kudos for these great swims, regardless, maybe he will show up in Austin and break all the records wearing a drag suit!!!!! Looks like my 100 to 200 yd national records are toast!!!!!!! At least he is 6 years younger to me.

After seeing the people there and what is going on - the people running the computer set up are buried with things to get done.

When results are final they just run off one copy give it to another group for them to distribute, then they get back other items. At Stanford we had four people with a network HyTek system working relays - i dont think they have that many people working relays (nor do they have as many relays).

Day Three

To add to yesterdays results

Larry Krauser swim a 58.78 in the 100 free for first. He was tied with Alex Mills (Norway), then came back to edge him by a half second.

James Elder 65-69 won the 100 free with a 1:02.85. Dan Willert came in third 1:06.09.

Graham Johnson went a 1:12.49 to win his division. He was second at the turn and came back to win by four seconds.

Ahelee Sue Osborn, one of the American coaches (and coaches at Nova Aquatics) wone the women&#39;s 50-54 200 backstroke. Karen Sing took third.

Today&#39;s results:
Rich Burns (TAM) was touched out in the 200 back 2:24.19 (0.03 behind first).

Ken Frost at the high end of his age group won the 200 free by a body length at 2:30.81.

Laura Val won the women&#39;s 200 free (55-59) 2:18.11.

One of the featured heats of the day was the fastest heat of the women&#39;s 200 Freestle. Suzanne Heim-Bowen (who had already won two gold medals), Jenny Whiteley of New Zealand and local favorite Shane Gould. Everyone knew it would be a barnburner race and they were not disappointed. Suzanne led from wire to wire. Everyone was close for the first lap, then Suzanne gradually pulled ahead. At the finish Suzanne was two body length ahead of second place Jenny Whitely and Shane Gould. To win the heat, Suzanne had to break the Laura Val&#39;s world record - she swam it at 2:15.00 - Gould came in at 2:17.21

Later, in the afternoon, Shane won the 50 fly. Karen Sing came in 4th (33.48)

In the fastest heat of the Mens 200 (50-54) Dan Stephenson (Michigan Masters) led from lane 4 wire to wire in a blistering 2:00.84. Outside burner (lane 1), John Morales (SRM) came in third at 310.61 and Jim Montgomery of Dallas Masters 7th at 2:12.42.

Bev Montrella took 4th in the 400 IM.

Fred Farley of Manatee Masters came in third in the 400 IM and Shariar Azafar (Santa Clara Masters) took fifth (50-54).

TriValley Mens water polo team is 1-2. Their two losses have been by one point.

Tomorrow is the 50 Free, 200IM , 100 Fly and 50 ***.

All the information is from my notes of what I have seen and reports from the American Coaches. I am sure I have missed a few swims. The results are $1.00 an event and I will just wait for on-line information. I have enjoyed watching some great races.

The American coaches have done a great job of taking splits and encouraging swimmers. There are many Americans to watch. The coaches purchased heat sheet, then marked all the American swimmers, so it is easy to see who will be swimming in which lane. With two pools you cannot see everything. I watched Ken Frost win his event, and raced over to the women&#39;s course and just missed Laura Val winning her 200 Free.

Tomorrow evening, the US swimmers will have a dinner together at a Fremantle pub. There have been a couple of swimmers who have used this trip as a fact finding mission - they have been tasting many of the local brews, and then reporting to the rest of us. It is so much easier sampling the local beer if you dont have to work your way through the swill. ( they have reported on some very good Aussi brews).<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2008 12th World Masters Championships

I can&#39;t get any final results at present what is the situation???<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: 2008 12th World Masters Championships

I looked at the seedings in the 100 free... and thought..crap I can almost be competitive!! Both are outside lanes. I dont think anyone is really concerned with the seeding. There are more concerns about seeing the heat sheets.

The women&#39;s 800 was called for lightning and then after canceling the heats for the evening brought them back. The said they were going to have them swim at the lunch break. Now it is posted that they will swim at 8:15 on Tuesday (relay day).

Interesting races seen: Suzanne Heim-Bowen beat Shane Gould in the 100 free. Suzanne was first of the block (good start) and held a half-a-body length lead at the turn. She held off Shane at the end to take first place (1:02.31) to Shane&#39;s (1:02.95). There was a lot of cheering for Shane by the local crowd and the end had a big awww. (except for the Americans who were wildly cheering Suzanne).

Shane also had a lot of pressure on her. Local TV was following her march to the blocks and there were plenty of mikes around here.

Both Sue and Shane could have been DQed as they left the pool by going over the top as opposed to going to the side to get out. They were told not to do it again.

Laura Val took the women&#39;s 55-59 100 Free. She went a 1:02.45 to Heather Campbell 1:03.45. Heather told Laura it was the fastest 100 she had swim.

I heard Bobbi Calison (Rinconada) took first in the 200 back ( have not seen the results).

Carol MacPherson Rinconada took 5th in the 100 Fr.

64 yr old Ken Frost of TAM took first in the 100Breaststroke. He was about two body length ahead at the finish.

Larry Krauser took first in the 800 Free. He was in third most of the race and at the last 100 took off to win the event. Afterward he went to play water polo with Kaos.

Richard Todd (TCAM) took second in the 100 Breaststroke.

Suzanne Heim-Bowen took first in the 800 Free, breaking Laura Vals record by about 4 seconds. She was the only woman to break 10 minutes (at least those results that were posted).

Tracy Grilli took 5th in the 800. Tracy scratch the 100 Free so she could play Water polo. (If I read the score correctly her team was beat 20-2).

Rich Burns took second in the 200 back.

I broke my seed time and finished in the top 80% of my age group (both personal goals) in the 800 Free.

That&#39;s because they&#39;re not complete. I got an e-mail from someone in Perth. He said that it rained and they had to postpone the later women&#39;s heats (at least the 30-34 age group). They&#39;re now supposed to swim on Tuesday.

It appears the computer is seeding like this:
5-6-4-7-3-8-2-9-1-0

when it should be:
4-5-3-6-2-7-1-8-0-9

Perhaps Lanes 0 and 1 are &quot;lower priority&quot; lanes. This is from the Meet Manager help files:

In addition to these very specific options, Win-MM also offers you the option of customizing Lane Preferences based on the particular setup of your pool. In most cases, no changes should be made to these &quot;standard&quot; lane preferences. For example, for meets using 8 lanes, the default standard lane preferences will be lane 4 for fastest, lane 5 for 2nd fastest, lane 3 for 3rd fastest, lane 6 for 4th, etc. But, if you are swimming in a pool where Lanes 5 and 6 are at the shallow end and you wish to give them &quot;lower priority&quot; in terms of lane preferences, you might want to seed the fastest in Lane 3, then 2, then 4, then 1, then 5, then 6. Another example is if you have a 10 lane pool and are using only the middle 8 lanes, change the 8 lane row to 5, 6, 4, 7, 3, 8, 2, 9 and in the Events Menu, set-up each event&#39;s number of lanes to be 8 standard lanes instead of 10 standard lanes.<div style="clear:both;"></div>
