Julie, I hear ya on the 30-34 age group. It is a walk in the park compared to 35-44. I got my 1st top 10 in the 200 fly and that was the 1st time I ever swam it. I don't see getting anymore top 10s till I am in my 50s. I am having a difficult year with my swim times and I figure that if I can not get a QT for nationals this year, it is going to be at least 5 before I can get another one....grrrr. Well that is if I can keep up the times I am doing now.

Congratulations to all of you - Fort, Ande, Julie, Donna (with awesome best times) and everyone else!! I feel fortunate to be able to speak with all of you via this forum. Well done! I hope to do a SCM meet next year. Julie, your places were really impressive (yours too Fort - in that crazy age group of yours). I agree in that the 40+ groups look HARD!!! 35-39 is not quite a walk in the park. But, compared to KPN and company in the 40+, it may well be.

I hope I continue to get faster as I get older. Not sure what's up with my age group...women's 30-34! I am currently SECOND in the 200 free with a time that would barely have made it in 40-44 and 45-49 and not at all in 25-29. Everyone always told me in triathlon and swimming that once you turn 30 it gets so much harder to place, but now I'm thinking they meant 40! It's cause people over 40 ROCK, oh young and klutzy one. :agree:

Fort I share your pain. I thought the 40-44 was tough but 45-49 is tougher. Since last year I was 11th in the 1500 I thought for sure this year taking almost 2 minutes off I would finally make it but no #16 this year. Maybe 5 years from now I might finally make it. all I know is I need to start swimming the 200 fly and 200/400 IM (mens 40-44). I can't crank out the 100s as fast as the other guys anymore. Diversification certainly provides options.

Personally, I loooooove the 30-34 age group! Got my first top 10 time since 1998 (coincidentally, the last year my knees functioned as a breastroker!) Fast 30-34 women, please continue having children! :)

I can't believe that people are actually complaining about not making top 10 in more events, or not placing high enough. I'd be happy with one #10 place. At the rate I'm going, I'll be lucky to place #10 in 30-35 years in any event. I wasn't complaining, I was expressing amazement that such a poor showing was my only SCM swim from last year to make the list. Nevertheless, for giving the appearance of complaining, I'll award myself one of these: :violin:

I need a new age group that does not include KPN. lol BUT, I was very excited. Just got an email from a teammate alerting me to the fact that our mixed 200 free relay was #1!! Not bad for a smaller club team. :bouncing:

I only got in the top ten in one event, and it was one of my worst races of the year. Imagine diving in for a 200 fly and realizing before the end of the first 25 that you're completely exhausted and will be lucky to finish. That was my only top ten SCM time for 2007! Guess it beats a kick in the a**. Way to go.

Similar story,but not as happy an ending.I swam a 200 fly 20 min after a"go out too fast and REALLY die"200 BR.It was the 11th place time(but I went faster than I thought I would and am proud I didn't chicken out and scratch.)

Thanks,I was happy with all three BR times for this year.They were all faster than last year,even if I got beat in the 50 and 200(and the competition was really good.)

Jim,congrats on your #1 time in the 200 BR,although your victory should come with an asterisk as your arms are longer.I'm sure my head would have been in front of your head.Wait til next year(oops,this isn't the trash talk thread,forget it.)
