Chris -

Thanks for the results!

Unfortunately or fortunately I&#39;m pretty involved with the local USAS / YMCA age group team so many of my weekends are spent at my daughter&#39;s meets. NOVA and the Lynchburg Y team swim in different districts. I&#39;d hoped to attend the master&#39;s meet in Roanoke on the 15th of March but we&#39;re in Cary for a regional YMCA meet - one way or another I hope to see you around the pool!

We&#39;re hosting the regional A/BB champs for the district next weekend...almost 600 kids so far. Can you say controlled chaos?

Thanks again,

Congrats on your first meet! I&#39;m glad you had a good time. What a nice message -- I will pass it on to Nancy Miller, James Wolfle, and the others. My wife and I certainly enjoyed having people over for the social.

I&#39;ve attached the meet results -- they will be posted at www.vaswim.org eventually, but I figure our webmaster must be busy with &quot;real world&quot; stuff.

Hope to see you at another meet,

I got to meet Paul, Julie and Chris (and watch Chris swim the backstroke:bow:!
Paul, with his lovely bruised heel, slipped on the block and cut his big toe, but still managed to swim pretty fast. I also got to see him swim 29.something in the 50 back.
I got to watch an epic duel in the 400 IM between Chris and Jeff Roddin (I can&#39;t really say much because my backstroke is considerably worse than Chris&#39; breaststroke) and another great race in the 200 IM.
I also saw Julie swimming some, sans boot of course.
I didn&#39;t achieve my biggest goal of breaking 30 for the 50 free. Apparently there is quite a disconnect between my practice stroke and my sprint stroke. I am starting to get the hang of a good catch when I am trying to keep my stroke long, but that hasn&#39;t made it to a sprint stroke yet. In all fairness, I did take nearly a second off of my PR in the 50 fr by going 31.65. I also swam my first ever 500 free. Despite slipping on the blocks, cutting my toe and filling my goggles with water, I still swam my predicted seed time of 7:15. I had hoped to go under 7:00, but my first turn was an open turn because I was trying to figure out how to see with goggles half full of water and another one of my turns very nearly missed the wall with only my tippy toes touching the wall. I took 25 seconds off of my 200 br and wound up with a 3:10 (not quite to grudge level with SS). And I took a little over 20 seconds off of my 200 fr by going 2:36.
I enjoyed getting to put faces with some of the names and watching friends and fast people swim. I&#39;m looking forward to zones and getting meet more people and hopefully break that elusive 30 second barrier.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: David Gregg III Memorial Meet

Sunday last year we started at 9am (same as this year) and finished around 1:30pm.

Thanks, Chris. I&#39;d love to meet more folks at the meet. Now to negotiate with SWMBO. TJ, I didn&#39;t answer your question directly in my previous post. The answer is YES, you should have plenty of time. And there is a separate warmup pool, so you would be set.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: David Gregg III Memorial Meet

I&#39;ve relayed your questions to James Wolfle (who has the entries and can run a timeline report). Saturday last year we started 2:30pm and finished just after 6pm. This year we are starting at 2pm (1pm warmup).

Sunday last year we started at 9am (same as this year) and finished around 1:30pm.

Sorry about the foot! (My son also just broke his foot, must be something in the air.) Glad you&#39;re still making it to the meet.

I think the 400IM probably won&#39;t be as interesting as the 100 fly on Sunday. I am the absolute least of his worries -- tell Jeff that some young stud (Murphy Halasz) is supposed to be at the meet: 47 / 1:44 in the 100/200 fly in college at Indiana...about 3 years ago. Lee Jewell is also swimming the 100 fly and he is a good sprinter (20+ 50 free, 51+ 100 back) so I imagine he&#39;ll be pretty fast in the fly.

Me, I think I&#39;ll just watch the race unfold from about a bodylength back...best seat in the house...<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: David Gregg III Memorial Meet

In just six short days, I will get to experience my first ever 500 free. WHATEVER YOU DO....DO NOT GO OUT TOO FAST! I can&#39;t tell you how many times I have been standing behind the blocks telling myself just that and then 200 yards later I think to myself &quot;Darn, you went out too fast!&quot; It really makes for a LONG race. Pretty fast, I think; lots of USS meets held at this pool. It is the home pool of NOVA, which is a pretty big/fast club.

Fairly deep the whole way (can&#39;t stand anywhere, at any rate). Walls are a little slippery so you have to makes sure you push straight off; it will only be an issue at one end b/c of the touchpads at the other. There is a separate 10 lane 25y pool for warm-up/warm-down.

The worst part of the pool is the locker rooms...!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: David Gregg III Memorial Meet

I&#39;ll be there, not sure what I&#39;m swimming but will be there both days.

Chris

I am right there with you. I have been swimming for slightly over a year now and signed up for the 500 since I can&#39;t seem to break 30 for the 50 anything. I also signed up for the 200 br, the 200 fr and the 50 fr. This is the meet where I finally break :30. My flip turns are somewhat reliable and I seem to be able to swim :32s and :33s in practice with a push off.
Congratulations on your record setting performances in December. One of the guys I swim with watched you swim.
I am looking forward to this meet since I have not competed since the GMU Sprint Meet.
