When you finish a freestyle race, do you simply try to finish at full extension on your side while still doing a normal (albeit fast) freestyle kick? Or do you do a dolphin kick on your final stroke into the

RE: Freestyle finish

I have tried to do that on turns and only hurt my head.

I always coach my swimmers to finish THROUGH the wall, not on the wall.

Aim for the timekeepers if you want to finish well.

RE: Freestyle finish

I don't have much time to get older.

RE: Freestyle finish

Mermaid right on = I had just written something similar but was interupted in posting by a personal email.

RE: Freestyle finish

Swim into the wall - don't stop kicking until you touch the wall.

RE: Freestyle finish

I try to rotate and reach with my arm. That's what I thought, but I have noticed some of the faster swimmers on our kids' team doing the dolphin into the wall on the last stroke during practice, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't behind on the times. Maybe they are just being lazy when they do it. :laugh2:

I concur with the lazy assumption. Unfortunately, I know this from personal experience. When I have a good finish I am turned to either side and make the big stretch for the finish.

they are definitely being lazy. we have to remind our kids not to do that and to attack the wall on their finishes. even if someone is in their way...

RE: Freestyle finish

No dolphin kicks for me on the finish.

RE: Freestyle finish

Ok, good. Bet it's being lazy. Underwater finish=partial glide, DK=not looking like they are completely loafing.

RE: Freestyle finish

Ok, good. Transitioning from flutter to dolphin at the end will cost you time.
