I don't one that costs more than $150.

I just bought the jammer from www.djsports.com They are not as expensive as the Fastskin but they are lightweight and I think that is the most important feature. Where I didn't have much or any hair (like my chest, back and inner arms) I would just run the blade over quickly. The *feel* you get from shaving (the theory I always heard is that it exposes the nerves by clearing away a layer of skin) is incredible and worth it for big meets. You can't do it all the time, though, or you lose that sensitivity. In fact, I didn't worry about a super-smooth (stubble-free) shave as long as I covered everything at least once (the more over-board you go trying to eliminate those last hairs, the more likely you are to cut yourself, which is no help whatsoever).

I've heard lots of folks say that the full body technical suits obviate the need to shave, but I haven't personally tested that theory... If you're really serious, I'd suggest shaving regardless of the type of suit you buy. It can't really hurt (unless you badly cut yourself shaving, I've done that before) and can only help.

RE: Championship Suit

Its a real head game...

I've had good experiences w/ the fs and fs2. resisted, but bought a FS jammer for Indy Nationals in 2004; loved it and performed pretty much all lifetime bests at that point. Bought a fs2 legskin for Fort Liquordale Nationals in 2005, same thing, same results.

mixed feelings on the fs pro, which I bought for Federal Way Nationals in 2007, and only wore for my 100 fly and relay 50 backs (PBs) because I didn't like how it felt for the 100 fly. I may have bought too big, but if i get wet before i race, it seems to work OK. However, I just recorded a nearly 3 second drop in my scm 200 in a relay split wearing it.

see this thread for some comments on the pro.

breaststrokers tend to like the feel of the water on their legs. They're the only races you see at Nationals were it seems like the majority of the field is still wearing speedoes. Jeff Commings is one of those folks, and he's got some National Records.

RE: Championship Suit

I agree with Muppet,SHAVE and you will feel a difference.

RE: Championship Suit

Are you close to any records, top ten times, or some other goal? The reason I ask is that even though some swimmers here will swear by these high-tech suits, they only help so much. Maybe 3 seconds in a 200 ***... So is it worth the extra investment for a few extra seconds? If you're not near the top of the pack, I really don't understand the 10x investment -v- a regular suit.

As for regular speedo suits, Speedo.com and Swimoutlet.com both have several aquablade and older fastskin brief suits on clearance....for like $20-30.

Even if a suit gave me 5 extra seconds per 100, which is unheard of, it still wouldn't put me in the competitive category, so I've resigned myself to actually just doing my best with what I have.

RE: Championship Suit

ok so i know i want either a jammer or a speedo.

Apparently the science behind the TYR aquashift is pretty good, but that may have been banned by whatever regulating body you have (it was by FINA).
The one thing that is consistent is that you should get a jammer, especially if you have not practiced in a bodysuit before, plus they would probably be out of your price range.
