I started taking Cold FX yesterday but this morning when the alarm went off I thought no way as I cannot breathe and feel yucky.

Do you swim with a cold or am I being a big baby?

Same here. It works for running, too. The best for clearing sinuses is a OW (salt water) swim.

RE: Do you swim with a cold?

Swimlong. Though I really do miss the swimming. I will head back Monday.

Thanks for everyones input

Fine for the first two reasons, but the third is unsanitary and selfish. The rest of the team/public gets to swim in your snot trails and breathe your germs - which, BTW, love the pool's hot, moist environment...do us all a favor and get your endorphin high another way until you're non-contagious.

I can't speak for anyone else, buti don't blow snot in the pool. Actually, no snot builds up at all, which is the whole point of it.

And if you think about all the excretions that end up in a pool, and what body parts the water is swishing in and around, snot is going to be the least of your worries.

RE: Do you swim with a cold?

Of course I swim with a cold. Or fevers, cuts, bruises, tiredness, aches, pains, before surgery, after surgery (especially against the Doctor's orders), cold water, warm water, before eating, after eating, etc.

With a cold, I may not swim fast and I usually don't swim as far, but I always feel better for having swam!

The point of swimming is to build strength, get broken down, rest, then repeat. If you have a cold during your broken down state, which is most likely, all the better. swim through it, come out stronger than ever when you rest.

RE: Do you swim with a cold?

Okay, all you "I"ll swim with a cold because...I'm tough/addicted to swimming/it clears my sinuses...

This reminds me of some "baby" friends of mine who can't believe I swim in a pool that hosts a lot of "old people" water aerobic classes. They talk about weak bladders, flaking skin, etc. I tell them that's what chlorine is for. Been doing it for some time now and haven't caught anything yet. I think I'm more at risk getting cold/flu germs from the gym equipment than from the pool.

I will give it a try though. I also swam the 400 free yesterday and didn't push it. I swam at a nice comfortable pace. Coming in just under 6:00. I'm with Dorothy. Depends on how bad it is. Just coming on and I'll swim. I've actually fought off colds by swimming as they are coming on. If I can't breathe well, I'll stay home and rest.

That's not to say my time was impressive, but I needed to do it and they only offer it at one meet per year locally, so...

Not sure that I would do the 800/1500 on the same day or back-to-back days. The longer distances do take their toll.

You should try the 1500 though. It's a different race than the 800. You do start out the race the same way--that is, wondering why the :censor: you signed up to swim the darn thing. But, after settling in it's not so bad.:whiteflag:

RE: Do you swim with a cold?

I was at the same meet.
