I have to agree, but not sure how much is running induced and how much is life style. The group I ran with did a weekly 13 mile loop followed by breakfast. It wasn&#39;t long before some started out early to get extra miles in (they got up to 22-28 miles) then breakfast for some of them was Oatmeal and raises, only! or an egg white omelette with spinach (only):shakeshead:

I&#39;m eating steak and three eggs with grits!:wine:

IMHO: too many runners suffer from OCD.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Anyone swim with foot fracture?

Here is something from the past. Hmm, not nice, Swimstud, but am still chuckling because now that I am older, I can really tell a runner when I see one - they look too thin, not much body definition, and older. I went to a stress clinic and the speaker was very anti-running -- went on and on about how destructive it is to the body, and said running ages you - that&#39;s a first, but runners do tend to have a &quot;haggard&quot; look about them. Still, if I could, I would run every other day, even though I absolutely love to swim.

No problem swimming really. I just had to be a bit careful on turns, push-offs and kicking.

OUCH - did you have these injuries at the same time? I passed on the boot and have a post-op shoe which makes walking much easier - though it&#39;s higher than my regular left shoe (they should give you a mate even if it&#39;s a &quot;blank&quot;)

How long did it take before you could run?

My daughter swam through a broken toe and even went to a big swim meet with it. And she&#39;s an evilstroker too. She buddy taped the broken toe.

I have mine taped but remove it when I swim. How does hers stay on?

I feel your pain on the summer thing. I love the dog days of August. I am already mourning the loss of summer. Although I get far more more serious workouts in when I swim indoors!

It hurt to do breaststroke and backstroke kicks but not that bad--fins actually helped stabilize my foot. I can&#39;t run (also run and play tennis) or walk or play tennis, or use stairmaster. Any one have this problem? Did you/would you continue to swim? I don&#39;t want to prolong the healing process but I WILL JUST LOSE IT if I can&#39;t even swim.

i&#39;m not a doctor but I&#39;ve broken a toe. You might get away with taping (duct tape will hold in the water) it but seek out a sports doc. If it&#39;s your toe you can ignore it but if it&#39;s a foot bone then you might have to go careful as it can affect your gait, posture and lead to other issues right up to jaw pain. I would think taped for a swim might work. You can probably get a verruca (sp?) sock to cover that foot if you apply tape too.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Anyone swim with foot fracture?

I&#39;ve swum with a stress-fractured ankle and a broken toe without too much difficulty. I had the boot on for awhile -- a few weeks? Hard to remember. Crutches for 1-2 weeks. I don&#39;t think I ran again for a few months actually. Took some time. Did the ellipse machine after a month or so though. But I would never have become a masters swimmer without the running injury, so I guess it had that side benefit. :bouncing:

You know, that&#39;s my story exactly! I kept getting stress fractures of the tibia (stupid me, ran 20 miles one week on the stress fracture, not realizing what it was - took months to heal) If not for those dratted fractures, I never would have learned to swim, and am now officially addicted. However, IMO, I still believe that for keeping the body firm, keeping the weight off (I am soooo much hungrier after a swim), and for the &quot;runner&#39;s high&quot; running takes the prize, hands down.

For a break on the swim muscles, I am going to try spin class tonight, since all weight is placed on the heel, and the doc says it should be ok.

Mini-Fort&#39;s tape did come off mid-way through practice quite frequently. She&#39;d just tape it again later.

I had two broken wrists in the last several years - same injury, but different wrist each time. The first time, I was back in the water a week later, then swimming with a short-arm cast for ~9 of the 12 total weeks of cast-ness. The second one, I had 4 weeks of a full arm cast (only swimming ~300m at nationals during that time) then 10 more weeks of the short-arm. I did mostly leg-work during that time, but was in the water for about 7 of those 10 weeks.

I feel like the 2nd time, being in that full-arm, and then doing only legs really hurt my recovery. Two additional weeks in a cast is one measure of how it impeded recovery. Then the fact that if I have a twinge of random pain, it&#39;s always in my left wrist (break #2).

So that being said, I am hobbling around on wounded knee now, but am trying to be sure it gets its fair share of movement. Nothing extreme. But I think a small amt of walking, swimming, stretching are good for it.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Anyone swim with foot fracture?

Kiefer lycra fin sox will keep a taped foot pad or just tape on your foot in place!
