I can say "incredibly fast" because I saw Michael Phelps break his WR there, last winter, in the 200 Fly. He did it unshaven and untapered. :cheerleader:

It's the University of Missouri Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri. The meet will be held December 1st & 2nd.

My recollection is that there may be a Beta test effort to gather info from a select number of Zone/LMSC Championships that use Hy-Tek for data management and see what develops from it. Everyone needs to be on the same page from the data standpoint to help minimize the effort or it's too labor intensive.

RE: Why doesn't USMS have a SCM national championships?

Being a born-and-raised Missourian, I wish I could come to Columbia in December. Maybe someone can arrange a big SCM meet there next year. But I think few people will show up for the same reason fewer people come to the summer nationals: families. It's right before winter break and people want to save vacation time for "real" family trips.

Plus, I don't remember Columbia having an airport, which means a two-hour drive from either Kansas City or St. Louis (Columbia's smack-dab in the middle of the state). Who wants to drive that far?

In any case, best of luck at the meet. Hopefully those people will at least be convinced to have a SCY nationals. Who doesn't want to swim in the same water where a world record was broken unshaved and untapered? I just wish they had that pool when I was swimming in high school state meets there, instead of Hickman High!

RE: Why doesn't USMS have a SCM national championships?

I remember this discussion from an earlier time and one of the problems was that many of the pools that would be used for such an event are college pools and school would be in session during that time.

Rutgers has offered up their facility to host the Colonies Zone Championship this and next year, this after putting the kaibosh on USMS meets a few years ago. Perhaps w/o a men's team anymore, they've got some added pool time.
:dedhorse:

I believe that the "Short Course Championships" in the spring can be either meters or yards. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people would be peeved if they were in Meters, esp since we're not a metric country and there are still LOTS of people who've never (or very infequently) swum in a SCM pool. I grew up with SCM summer league.

RE: Why doesn't USMS have a SCM national championships?

found the new orleans stuff

There are a lot of new SCM Championship meets in the Fall, including the one to be held 1-2-Dec-2007 at University of Missouri-Columbia which will be the "Missouri SCM Championship".

USMS does not have a lot of bids for the 2 exisiting national championship SC or LCM. Plus, there are provision to have SCM instead of SCY in the Spring nationals.

What is the difference from a virtual national championship and USMS Top Ten SCM ranking ? Why go through the expense of having an actual meet; other then the motiviation to swim next to another fast swimmer ?

Good discussion topic (despite being a repeat from the past).

To simulate the conditions at, say, the Woodlands in August, you could require that the swimmers hang out in the sauna between events.

RE: Why doesn't USMS have a SCM national championships?

You might want to search the threads. As an alternative, come to the SCM championships at Long Beach in December. It is a great pool although "old". I believe it was built for the '68 trials. We always have swimmers from other parts of the country swim at the meet. I think with a little encouragement, it could become a de-facto national meet.
