I believe I would like to purchase one, If I could only find it again. Thanks in advance.

RE: finger lap counter....

I started this thread some time ago. have purchased one of the finger lap counters...that gives splits and all. and have had excellent results. no complaints at all. Although it is hard to read when pushing off the wall, I can see the count without much loss of momentum. I also saw someone with a large counter that hangs on the wall and you hit it as you turn. I dont believe however it is any easier to see, as the numbers seemed to be sort of faint. The person using the device confirmed that the numbers need to be darker. but they were reasonably satisfied with the counter as well

RE: finger lap counter....

Okay, I am not new at swimming but have never swam competitively. I do not understand all the lingo r/t splits etc. What are splits? I'm also trying to find something that keeps track of counting laps? I try to swim a mile a day, but am tired of counting. I swim in a 25 yard pool

A split is an intermediate interval time, compared with the final time.

For example if you are swimming a 500 free (20 laps in a SCY pool) you might be interested in your time for each 50 or each 100. If you saw that your 50s became progressively slower as the race progressed you are fading and perhaps you swam to fast in the beginning.

Depending on the stopwatch you use, the split might an intermediate accumulated time or the actual interval.

Example:

distance....accum split/interval split
50....40.0/40.0
100....1:30.0/50.0
150....2:20/50.0
200....3:05.0/45.0

RE: finger lap counter....

www.sportcount.com/products.php

Works well, especially the Chrono 100, from what I've heard.

Make sure you keep all receipts with this. I haven't had good luck with it, but every product has a lemon...I'm just on the Lemon List, I guess.
I haven't found anything else to try though.

RE: finger lap counter....

Okay, I am not new at swimming but have never swam competitively. I particularly liked this quote: "Now you are able to eschew the terror of forgetting if you are on lap 17 or lap 19 because you were thinking about cookies." That describes me perfectly. ;)

www.worldwideaquatics.com/.../Tempdefault.asp
www.amazon.com/.../B000EP7INI

Just a thought for you: I use the lap counter on my watch to keep track of laps (after 300 yds, I'm hopeless at counting). What I like about it is that I can keep count and the watch saves 50 splits and calculates mean split time. What I don't like is that it breaks up the rhythm to hit the counter and that I need to pause to see what lap I'm on.

RE: finger lap counter....

I have one branded by Speedo. Looks about the same as the first item Barb linked to. I haven't used it in a long time, probably 3-4 years. It worked well for me when I was still always doing open turns, but when I began doing flip turns I never got comfortable trying to pay attention to it when I turned, so I stopped using it. It's just rattling around in the bottom of my bag. I don't even know if it works anymore.
