She is a beautiful womann and Michael Phelps has been a jerk at times. They were and may still be great swimmers. We know which one made wiser decisions.

I still haven't seen the issue. My uncle, who was a bachelor his whole life, died unexpectedly this past year. His body had been in his apt awhile.... good thing Pat's a cop and is used to this type of thing. We went to "destink" the apt for my mom. While we were there I noticed literally hundreds of Playboys. He had them going back to the 1970s! When we moved all of his things, my mom decided to keep them as they are probably worth something as an entire collection. I'm sure the Amanda one is in there somewhere, I'll have to remember to take a peek- in my spare time! Its all very tasteful...Playboy isn't Hustler after all. Lots of artsy poses and while she is naked she is still partially covered in some aspect.

While googling breaststroke videos (to fix my horrendous stroke) I of course came across one of the greatest breaststrokers, Amanda Beard. And what else came up when I googled her name, Playboy. Which got me to thinking about that long lost thread. That was a pretty humorous thread! Today, 3 years later: I still think she's an amazing breaststroker, and I could really care less that she posed for Playboy.

I showed the pic of her with the cap and everything that has been on the back of many swimming mags. Everyone thought she was a man. I think that says more about your sample group than the woman in the photo. A man? Sheesh.

Dang, I thought she took off her clothes to show women how swimming is good for you, makes you look great! That is what I tell my wife, when I show her Beard's pictures I have on my computer. It probably is unfair to suggest that Amanda is shallow or a ditz on the basis of her Letterman appearance; I'd probably look foolish too since I'm not at all media savvy. On the other hand, the company she's grouped with in the Playboy pages is definitely suspicious.

This seems like a serious stereotype to me. Of course you're right, it is a stereotype. Whether its a "serious" one is antics with semantics. On the spectrum of eroticism, Playboy is very tame, so you wouldn't have a hard time finding models (or readers) that are more base. But when you look at the overall tone of the mag, its sophmoric. There's a reason I haven't bought an issue in decades, and it has nothing to do with my libido.

Some of the comments I heard Playboy made in that issue dealing with the Bible were a bit uncalled for IMHO. For a magazine that trumpets "let everyone do their own thing", I think they took a pretty cheap shot at the Bible, which I found uncalled for. I do not care what people read, think or do as long as it does not impinge upon my rights, and ridiculing people who believe in the Bible is simply the other side of the coin they think they minted when the magazine began.
